Not the biggest fan of private plates given that most seem to tell me that the driver is an aspiring serial killer (dominator, terminator etc) or make love to their scooby (rextacy etc), how having a mooch around http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/20416.asp... Got me thinking.

Wouldnt mind a black plate, white writing on acrylic as my cars black and would look pretty smart but worried would be a bit tit like.

The OH has banned me from plates such as 'FLY LIKE A' (I drive a G6 wink , 'BLOWN G6' and 'BIG KMH' which is quite understandable given how wky it would look.

However Initials are available.

So what's the view?

Agree with some of the comments private plates can be bit of a w..k if you Get something speed, power related etc. Why not go the route of say PG with some numbers. People who know you will get it others who cares. I like them as easy to remember. We've go 01UPS up to 06UPS. It's a play on our last name which is Downes. We've got 4 more vehicles without private plates and have no idea what the rego numbers are on them.

I have a private plate of S2K for the S2000. Silver on black, and really sets the car off IMHO. Downside is i do not own it, just rent it from year to year.

Could you expand on this? The plate is $500 odd to buy, but are you referring to the ongoing rego?

I only know about SA, but some plates you buy outright, and others you buy the right to display for x amount of years.

Premium, personalised and numeric you own outright with a once off fee. Euro and custom plates you buy the right to display every year (or buy a 2,3,4,5 year right to display) which starts off at about $150.

So my S2K is a custom plate and it costs me about $200 a year to own the right to display. I can sell this right to display though (for a fee) which you cannot do for every style of plate.

Don't you love simple things made complicated!!!

PS just noticed that STWOK 1 is available as a one off fee plate. Tempted smile

The thing with plates in WA is DPI has the last say on what you can have

My old man has got OFFRACING on his 30 foot 8 ton motorhome that is used to tow the racecar, he got denied this plate the first time he applied due to it promoting Hoon behavior even after he told them what it was going on

He ended up having to go in to DPI and explain why he should be allowed this plate to a sitting board
