Servicing TVR's in Melbourne
Discussion
My name is David. I am thinking of buying a Tuscan S as a work car (yes I know - sounds a bit of a wk) but if the company will agree to it then why not enjoy the daily commute. However before doing so - can anyone tell if there are experienced and hopefully not woefully expensive service providers in Melb? I used to own a Chimaera '97 4.5 in Japan for 5 years so this will be my first Tuscan. Moving from Japan to Melbourne in a month or so. I also have an E-type Jag (1973 Series III) and an MGBGT V8 (pushing out 275 bhp) so I suppose I will need to say goodbye to one of them sadly as my wife won't be tolerant of 3 toys.
There are a few places that will be comfortable servicing Chimaeras etc but the speed 6 engine is such a rarity in Australia that I don't think it's something they will have seen previously.
Drop me a PM and I can put you in touch with a few places or have a look at http://www.tvr-register.org.au/forums

David,
There is enough info here on PH for any patient and competent mechanic to service a Speed 6. They aren't a difficult engine to work on and internally they aren't too complex. Adjusting the finger follower clearances is probably the most time consuming.. but by no means technically challenging.
I have just made a diagnostic cable and the s/w is readily available. This allows you to reset the adaptives and investigate efi faults if they occur. Service details are well documented here.
I work on my S6 myself.. and know some very knowledgeable owners here in Australia. If you are semi handy with a spanner then you'll probably love doing a lot of the servicing yourself. There is a very supportive TVR community here in Australia.. often with good contacts in the UK.
