It will be very interesting.

I drove an Oz 2.5L version of the Brabham Repco world F1 winning car there in 68.

We had about 300 BHP & were getting 176 MPH through the flying 1/8Th at the bottom of conrod. That was the first time we managed a 100 MPH lap at 2.15, & at that time we did not have wings on open wheelers.

The 500 race was for stock standard cars, with the Fords, & Holdens just getting under 3 minutes, as were things like Morgans, MGs & Healeys.

He'll find that drive across the top of the mountain, in a fast car, is some of the most incredable motoring to be had on this earth. God how I'd love to do it just one more time.

I got hooked on motorsport watching the Bathurst 1000 and it is still a place I would love to visit and have the opportunity to drive.

Would love to see the F1 cars round there, any idea if it is to be televised in the UK?

Yes with Jim Palmer. For me, driving the Monro around there was a bit like talking a pussycat for a walk, they were so kind & forgiving, you could get away with anything. It was the Ford boys working hard that day.

I spent about 2 hours circulating in close company with Bruce McPhee. We had both picked the same speed that we thought was as fast as you could go, & still finish.

Those races were a bit like 10 green bottles in those days, none of the cars could get 500 miles, if you thrashed them too hard.

As an aside...I have a copy of a Brabham BT21 chassis sitting in my garage right now. I have to form the body out of ali this weekend in fact.

I bought the plans to the ASP open wheeler a few years ago. I went over Brabhams original car a few months back whilst being restored and took to it with a tape measure.

They are exactly the same to a mm.

OK

The Imp is the one I am intrested in, BEC is the only way to go
Clubbies are great fun until you drive a 400kg car with 180bhp reving to 10500rpm
Still have a sr20det clubbie at my disposal

Im really not sure what to do with the Imp to be honest. I have a few engines at the machine shop being built and could use any of them from the stock 875 to a 283 chev or rv8.

Decisions decisions.

It gets painted on the easter long weekend.

You have the Rv8 in the chubbie

I like the idea of a rear engine Bec a bit like the Holeshot racing minis
Keep with the R1 idea I think
