I've read through most of the relevant posts I could find regarding shipping cars etc to Australia but there's a few other questions I'd like to ask those who've done it...

We're going to be moving back very soon and I'm planning on bringing my '64 Lincoln Continental with us. We're looking at getting a container for the car and our household belongings - is this the best route as i've heard conflicting reports as to the benefits of splitting the shipping (which seems like a waste of money TBH).

Another things is the VIA form for the car. It's asking for all sorts of proof that we're moving back. Now a lot of these are going to be tricky for me as i'll be moving back in with the folks for the forseeable - so no rental agreement, we're not going to sell the UK house - so none of that ID, and lastly I don't want to tend my resignation until the last minute as it will undermine my position here. Does anyone know how hot they are on these kind of things?

Cheers in advance!

Im using Cargo Online Pty Ltd. Car in a container, Car can be packed with stuff and 2 cubic meters of extra.
Are you using the Personal import or the Pre 1989 import? I found the Pre 89 form more interested in the car than me. If the car is a custom job don't expect approval. Also there is a backlog of applications, mine took 2 months. I don't have a permanent address to go to and had no problem. As far as them being hot on things, you are dealing with bureaucrats after all.

That'd be Jim (aka Matrix) by my reckoning! I've been talking to him for a few years on the Lincoln Forum... can't wait to organise a get-together upon our arrival.

Wow, some scary import stuff above, especially the 2 month backlog... by that rationale, if I were to purchase a car from the UK, which I very nearly did a couple of weeks back, I'd have to have the vendor sit around waiting 2 months for import approval, or, take my chances and have it purchased and sitting in storage in the UK...?! eek

Aussie fkin bureaucracy.

Surprised to see the Continental connections. My Dads '78 Town Car:
