Perth : $5k car.
Discussion
I dont know of any specifically but you are doing the right thing looking at those cars for that money. Look at the usual www.carsales.com.au but in that price bracket you might have better luck with www.quokka.com.au or Gumtree.
Gumtree is by far the best site for this price of car. I recently sold a magna on there for $500, and within minutes I had sold it.
The couple (uk backpackers) said every car they rang had sold, so you'll need to be quick. Although mine could have sold quickly due to price. Maybe 5k prices will take a bit longer to sell. Good luck, good cars are out there for that price, just old

Cheers guys,
I've just seen a few "shame you didn't ask earlier, I've just sold .." type posts over the years, so thought I'd get in and ask with a bit of warning.
Been looking at Gumtree (CarSales seems to be higher value), I'll add Quokka to the list.
Just need something to last us 6 months or so till the paycheques have come in.

Ended up spending a little more and got a MY00 Subaru Outback.
Good motor and has been fine getting us in and out of town so far.
Recon we'll get 500 km out of a tank.
So much nicer than all the horrid Hyundais we have looked at.
Good stuff - bust the budget! At least it wont lose too much.Good motor and has been fine getting us in and out of town so far.

What's it like to drive?
Bangernomics, of which a few of us fully appreciate here, is hard to do when it comes to it. $5k cars just tend to be a bit, well, generally old and stty. I was looking at BF XR6's but with Deviants help ended up with a G6E Turbo
Not a bad drive to be honest, bit light on the power steering, but the AWD grips well.
It's a manual, which is a pain in thongs. But should return better economy on the freeway.
It will keep us mobile till we can save for a better motor as a second car. Will keep it after though.
The wife has started work, and I am speaking to agencies about lining up interviews.
Anyone need a Software Developer?

It was surprisingly easy to persuade someone to spend 3 times their original budget What's it like to drive?
