As I can't be bothered to look, what is the differnce in l/100lm and servicing ?
I can cope with an overall $2/km incl depreciation, rego, insurance etc but everyone will have their own limits (I don't do that many kms !) (Will stick with the straight 6 for a bit though)

I think the difference is about 5l/100km or say $32.50 ($1.30 per litre x 500km) a tank. If you do 25,000ks per annum thats about $650 per annum more for a v8 over a 6. Roughly.
Not much but overall on 15l/100km fuel con x 5 (for 500ks a tank) that's $97.50 a tank and about $5000k for the year give or take a bit for a V8.
I'm a bit pissed so forgivey maths if wrong

I meant to add on above, the Falcon Turbo near as damn it makes as much torque as a V8 and can very easily be modified to out perform a V8.
The bloke that fiddles with my MX5 has got a last of the BF shape FPV Falcon with the turbo engine. He chucked an exhaust system, induction kit and a set of injectors on it and flashed the ECU and it makes 450bhp at the wheels and 800nm torque. It is properly rapid and the onboard display shows an average of 9.5L/100.

Yeah he is a gun driver, normally a top 10 finish in targa west in a showroom spec Evo. I have been in his Falcon, the noise is very nice and to me sounds slightly better than the V8s with the locally made 'performance exhaust'. It has a very typical straight 6 sonorous noise but with the addictive turbo 'wiffle'. The mid range punch makes you feel dizzy with that much torque on tap!
As for which model...The turbo will be much much faster but unless you find one the options book was dumped on (very rare) the FG is better equipped as stock. Manual FG are more common to.

Sounds like a top guy.
I think owning a regular, usable everyday car with a dizzy punch sounds immensely appealing (obviously) but the exhaust you mention would lift up the car ahead of a V8 as I don't see any disadvantages of the 6T over an 8.
Given its going to be a work car the modernity and kit of the FG might win out.

How's this for a 'cost of living in UK vs Australia' comparison.
Rang AAMI who insure our Mitsi enquiring about the cost to insure a 2009 Falcon FG XR6.
Car value $24k, business use. I'm 34 and they've given me free max ncd:
$939. Or about £600 full comp with a $400xs
When I was in the UK my Ford Focus 1.6 90bhp TDCI Style worth £5k with no business use was £1100.
So I get nearly 3 x the power, 3 x the value for nearly half the cost.
And who said it's way more expensive living here

If you pump the excess up, it might be even less. Rang AAMI who insure our Mitsi enquiring about the cost to insure a 2009 Falcon FG XR6.

Over the last 2 years I've had 3 SV6 sportwagons and am now running an SSV.
Commute to work is 114kms round trip, all freeway, although it is top start towards the ends most mornings (Citylink over the Bolte Bridge).
I record the fuel consumption, and the averages are:
SV6 1 = 9.4l/100km over 12668 km total
SV6 2 = 9.5l/100km over 12334 km total
SSV = 10.8 l/100km over 10737 km so far
The V6s were SIDI and the V8 has AFM.
So, not that much more expensive to run a V8, about $2 a day for me I reckon.

True Moto, ive always found that a large increase in xs tends to give a small reduction in premium but I'll definitely look at it.
That's an excellent point on the V8 fuel consumption - $2 a day is nothing (well $600 a year
It would be great to have a 6.0 V8 company car though - livin the Aussie dream!
