So, if you happened to be in a position of importing a UK car for a total of $50k GBP. (call it $35-40k cost before incidentals)

What would you get, classics and new, whatever is on the RAWS and SEVs list.

Probably only need half the budget, a big block Corvette from around 1970ish, being fibreglass no rust issues coming from the UK and being that age no duty or many adr's to worry about for compliance.

Why on earth would you import a Corvette from the UK rather than US?

911, ferrari or merc to make (quick) money. It would have to be a lot more expensive/exclusive to sell quickly if it is not a ford or holden.

TVRs? May not be a quick sale though.

TVR's dont sell here at all. The ones that are listed on carsales.com have been there for years..literally!

If you like TVR's then you will know what they are worth and to be honest the ones for sale now are hugely expensive. I can imagine that if people are doing internet research they are going to find a lot of horror stories to.

Personally I would not look to bring something in as a way of making some money. Supply and demand here is not great enough to be shifting the car quickly so you are going to end up holding the cost for a loooong time. Maybe a less niche type car would go quicker as you can undercut the local prices...Silly things like top of the range 4WD's that are $200K here as an official import or high end BMW's. Further resale of that car might be a problem for the owner though which might put people off, I am not sure that a high end car dealership would take on an import as a trade in for example.

If it was me doing an import I dont know what I would go for to be honest. There is not a great deal on the RAWS listing that would interest me at that price. Maybe an Exige would be okay. There is no RAWS listing for them but an Arial Atom would be a nice thing to have or I would look to import an Ultima in kit form the build here, there is someone in Perth in the process of registering one so the path has been laid for others.

I think the Atom might be a little hard core, what with the freak rain storms that happen occasionally!
TVR's definitely dont sell too well.

high end Mercs and BMW's may be the best resale, but then again, what if you were to keep the car, rather than try to re-sell immmediately?
(I'm not old enough for a Merc just yet!)

Classic metal may be the way forward.. so, over 20 years old.. what would you go for?
Ferrari?
Aston?
Pork?

I would love a flat nose 911 930 Turbo but 50K is just the starting point on those.

What do the road going versions of Group B rally cars go for these days? RS200, 6R4 etc?

Beyond that there is not a lot that really inspires me. I love historic and vintage race cars but you would need to start with a budget about 6 times what you have set for the stuff that really gets me going biggrin
