Hi.
I just wonderd if anyone here is in the motor trade and knows if Panel Beaters have much trouble regarding work in Australia. Is it a trade with a shortage of workers or too many ?

Have a look at the visa fast track list to give you an idea. 3 months ago they were on it, and there seems to be alot of work for a good UK beater. My friend has just been sponsored in Melb as a beater.

Thanks . Glad they were positive replies.......

Well I have not lived in the UK for 20 years (last 16 in Sweden, thats why I fancy somewhere a bit warmer) so I can not comment on the point that British Panel Beaters are nowadays theives or not. If someone tried to pay me a tenner an hour I may too have to become one.
Thanks again.

You need to check if that skill is listed on the list of 'wanted jobs' as they are only accepting applications from those who can do the jobs on the list - the link to the site was posted up here a while back.

As an aside I was told from a retailer there that no matter what job you do out there wages are pretty high and the minimum wage is well regulated per sector and age - he complains that he has to pay too much wages all the time even for simple cashiers but that is why the country is so middle class and everyone is supposedly comfortable and happy.

Found the thread here with the link and discussion about jobs: http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

I understand that the minimum wage in oz is $15 ph, or $570 per week based on 38hrs.

So about £10 ph at today's rate. Historically it sits at about £7 ph on a $2/£1 ratio.

The money was a joke in defense of the theive jibe......

You probably will for a visa, but probably won't to get work if you can demonstrate that you're good. Don’t know what the pay is like but they all charge like wounded bulls so you should do all right.
