Guys, don't know what I've been doing wrong but I can't seem to find a decent red wine over here!

I know Shiraz is the bigee but I don't like it so looking for recomendations from the pickled pistonheaders for Pinot Noirs, Cabs, Blends or Merlots for under $20 a bottle. beer

Taylors Cab Sav for around $13-17 depending on shop is a decent drop for the price imo

I find I can't get beyond Penfolds Rawson's Retreat Cab Sav - First Choice have the price varying from $6-$9. Change from a fifty for a case last night, can't go wrong.

5th leg Pinot and Oyster Bay Sav are a good choice. Been quaffing them lately.

Any Pinot from Tasmania is usually a winner
Goundry and Capel Vale do a very nice Cab Merlot
Wirra Wirra make a nice blend
D'Arenberg and Pepperjack do everything well (although you may need to hunt about to find them below $20)

A said above though, dollar for dollar, Taylors has to be one of the best value reds out there.

Cheers, Matt

Sounds like you need to take a trip to the Yarra Valley, Hunter Valley, Barosa Valley, Margaret River, Adelaide Hills, Red Hill etc etc etc etc etc for a tasting excursion methinks. smile

There are some fantastic wines out there especially from some of the smaller producers who only sell to restaurants and through their own cellar doors so don't limit yourself to just the big brand stuff...

Get out and try some, it's another big benefit of Australia having great wine regions on your doorstep pretty much regardless of which city you live in! smile
