Hi All,

I'm due to land in Sydney on the 1st December with my Porsche 993.

Please can anyone recommend a specialist car insurance company? Over here I pay £350.00 pa with Hagerty for 3000 miles per year.

I spoke to Shannons today who were not able to insure me due to the fact that the house we are moving to in Sydney only has a car port and no garage. In any case if it was garaged then the premium is $1,900.00 which is a lot more than the U.K

Any recommendations are much appreciated.

Cheers

Shannons is the only mainstream one. Other than that you are going to have to start talking to a few brokers and see what they come up with.

I could not reccomend any really as I have never had any luck getting quotes out of less mainstream insurers. I think they ae quite selective over who and what cars they insure, my driving history is clean but I have only ever had modified Japanese cars.

Shannons has always come through for me though, I think they will pretty much cover anything!

Maybe it would be worth talking to some Porsche owners clubs?

I've got 2 of mine with RACV (NRMA in NSW) on their vintage/classic/veteran policy as they were a lot cheaper than Shannons for cars on club rego. Paying $67 per year for the BMW 633CSi on a limited club use policy.

Can't remember if the cars being garaged was still a mandatory requirement for them covering them on the specialist classic policy though (although I think it was), and the car needs to be over 15 years old to qualify.

Still, they might be worth a shot.

Di you bring a "no claim" history from your insurance company over from the UK with you? You can get up to 60% off the recommended insurance quote with a solid driving history and no claims in the previous 5 years.

The no garage is a big problem though and most insurers will penalize you heavily for it. As a comparison my Porsche 964 in a lock up garage is just under $800 a year with Shannons on a full no claim bonus. If you have a good history it's worth getting the paperwork to support this from your last insurer.

Neil

Could try Vigil.

With Shannons, did you do it over the phone? I’m currently insured with them and have been for the past 2 years. On their website it says the car must be garaged and the driver must be over 25. I was 23 when I was insured with them, and my car is now parked in a carport and neither was an issue when I was talking to them over the phone.

Hi Neil,

We're due to arrive on the 1st December. I can and will bring the proof of no claims with me. However when I spoke to Shannons the guy did put it on the quote that I had more than 5 years no claims but the main sticking point here is the no garage issue. May need to get a garage built!!!!!

Thanks

Hi Colonial,

Yes spoke to them on the phone. They will definitely will not insure me without a garage. And even with a garage it's quite steep. Have had another quote of $1500 from NRMA.

I can't seem to find any info on the web for Vigil. Do you happen to have a link or contact details for them?

Thanks

Thanks Andrew. Will try and give these guys a call next week to get a quote. Can I call 1 300 numbers from the UK?

Also where would be the best place/have the best selection to buy a child seat. Will need to get one for my 2 year old asap when we arrive as it will be our only car for a little while.

Looking forward to catching you guys for a beer.

Thanks

the Sagaris is on the Dawes book, has been for three years. No complaints. Shannons were cheaper but insisted I get a NSW licence.
