3 weeks in Perth....
Discussion
If you were meaning Christmas 2011 we might just about be able to organise a Perth PH meet by then
Won't be any racing at Wanneroo that time of year (it's a Winter sport here) but you could probably get in for a look, might even be a "tuning day" or something on.
Hang on let's check the WASCC calendar...
Looks like there won't be anything on...
Saturday 4 December - Super Sprint (Short Circuit/Long Circuit) Barbagallo Raceway
Saturday 11 December -Perth Street Scene TV Drift Battle Rd 2 presented by AutoTrader (practice from 11am) Barbagallo Raceway
Sunday 12 December Hill Climb Jack’s Hill
Monday 13 December -Tuning Day Barbagallo Raceway
Saturday 25 December Christmas Day

Thanks Tim, that's a fair list of motors you've had.
The MX5 is definately an ongoing project, feels like it will never be finished.
Forgot to mention on my first post, if anyone is having a drink in or around Perth at Christmas, would love to meet up and learn about Aussie cars and local culture.

Where abouts are you staying?
I was born there, went back last Xmas to get married (was there for 6 weeks), and will be back there at some point to live.
Get down Freo Market and then eat at the North Bank and watch the world go by.
If you like wine, head South to Margeret River.
If you like pituresque nature, Wave Rock and the Pinnacles.
Head over to Caversham Park to pat Kangaroos or Pinnaroo National Park to see wild ones.
Think the Ashes are on at the WACA around Dec too.

That's me
I would be up for the drift thing at Wanneroo as long as it's not 15000 degrees in the shade
We also have a proper drag strip and dirt oval at the Kwinana motorplex. Might be some top fuel on or something.
As for other must do things...
Fremantle and a tour of the self brewing pubs...mad monk, sail and anchor and of course little creatures. Take a wander through the markets and try and pic which cafe to eat at. There is also the Luna arthouse cinema.
Kings park to watch the sun go down and the city light up.
Shopping in the city centre.
Swan valley wineries and brewers and the chocolate factory.
Perth has some great bars, nightclubs, cafes and restaurants and a decent collection of brothels.
If you can get somewhere to stay then Margaret river is worth a trip or you could go north to Exmouth, Coral bay or Broome.

We're staying in Palmyra visiting my Girlfriend's Sister who moved there a year or two ago.I was born there, went back last Xmas to get married (was there for 6 weeks), and will be back there at some point to live.

Thanks for the tips, we are all going down to Margeret River for New Year, I hear it's beautiful.
Will look into the Ashes, I'm no cricket fan but it would be good to go. Thanks.
Nice, can walk home from the North bank from there.
Have a drive down Burke Drive (it's local) at dusk, the city looks wonderful across the river, and the houses opposite are awesome.
I also reccomend Cott(esloe) Beach (eat in Indianna - great views, it's where I had my wedding reception. I then honeymooned down at MRiver. There is also a resturant a bit further north, blue-something that was nice).
Grab an esky full of beers and leftover BBQ food and head down to Point Perron with your snorkle and mask.
Down at Rockingham they do the "swimming with dolphins" thing if you are interested. Also Rottnest is worth a day trip.
Head a bit north for Hillarys for a few touristy bits and bars. There is also a sea life park though - AQWA or Underwater World if you have kids.
Don't think there are many car things on though. Go down Melville and testdrive an HSV?

I live a few minutes from Point Peron, it is a lovely spot and there is some snorkelling to be had there. Yes they do dolphin tours from Rockingham, I have seen them swim past when I am swimming off the beach.
If you are in to swimming then Coral Bay is well worth the trip, the coral reef is just stunning as is swimming with manta rays and watching sharks swim past.
You could head to the south coast for a few days. Albany is the oldest town in WA and has lots of history to explore. Good wine region there and a trip along the cost a bit to Denmark is nice.
York which is inland from Perth is a typical country town but is very pretty and has a motor museum.
We will definitely have to do a night out somewhere and try and do something motoring...maybe a run down the zig zag near Tims house!
