Moving To Sydney....
Discussion
Hi All,
So my spouse Visa has just come through so now we are looking at moving to Northbridge in early December. I'll be bringing the Porsche 993 over and Complete Car Care is doing the compliance work and registration.
Has anyone used these guys before?
Also anyone here live in Sydney as would love to meet up with some fellow pistonheaders once there.
See you in December!

Hi Colonial,
Would love to meet up when we're over. Are there any regular car meets?
Not PH ones, but me and some friends (mix of cars, mainly euro's and evo's) try and do a run once a month or so. Would love to meet up when we're over. Are there any regular car meets?

Don't know about the company, but I'm 2 suburbs over from you.
Northbridge is very nice, we're in Mosman at the moment so not too far away.
I'm going to bring a 911 over either late this year or early next so would be interested to hear how you get on with the 993.
Happy to meet up, PM me when you get here.
I was wandering through this place yesterday www.classicthrottleshop.com and well worth half an hour. Have also heard the garage next door is a good place to get your porsche fixed but no personal experience.
What are you coming over to do?
Matt

Hi Matt,
That place looks amazing. I have to visit when we get there.
My wife was raised in Sydney so for her is going back home. Not quite sure what I'll be doing yet but will keep an eye out on my business here where I have a couple of guys looking after it. Would like to get into the property game but will have to get clued up with the market there first.
If you're already in Sydney then how are you going to take a car over with the 1 year ownership issue?
Will definitley drop you an e-mail and meet up when we get there. Will be there early December.
Cheers

Northbridge is nice, I lived in Castlecrag next door and was last living in Mosman, now in UK. Good move bringing the 993 over to Oz with you, its worth quite a bit more in Oz than here in UK.
Northbridge is a lovely area, only a couple of traffic lights to the CBD, only 15mins away and being on a point it is quiet and leafy surrounded by middle harbour.

There is a well regarded Porsche workshop about an hour north of Sydney called Autowerks. Might be a bit far to drive though.
So, PH meet at a pub in Mosman is in order then?

Googled Autowerks, look like they know a thing or two about Porsches
Thang, the 911 would be pre '89 so no need for the 12 months ownership but I'm looking for a company that can sort all the importingdetails out including picking the car up in the UK and delivering it to the port, all the paperwork and compliance in Aus. There's a thread on it all in this forum somewhere and I think a few companies are mentioned who provide this servic.
House market is different to UK ie. it's not falling(yet)but I think you need to be on the ball to make a good profit right now. The press as usual are still talking it up in Sydney but the stats on auction clearances show a significant drop compared to last year so at some point things will probably go flat. One of the differences to the UK is the market has been growing throughout 2008/9 at a record rate and there's a huge amount of investment from China/Asia generally, which is fuelling demand. However, having said that, I'm no expert. I've made money here from rental sub lets before but you do have to find the right places and any more than 6 properties makes it pretty much a full time job.
I'm closer to the Duck - maybe 20 minutes to the oaks, which isn't a bad coming back from the pub walk at all.
I've been to the Autowerks shop - very impressive collection of cars.
OP - I used to be in private sector property stuff - planning side of things, but still keep my ear to the ground. Drop me an email if you want and I can provide some more info.

Sounds like you know the market quite well. Will need to pick your brain over a beer when we meet up along with Colonial.

Hi Robin,
Not sure if you remember but we spoke a few months back. You were advising me on the whole visa paperwork requirements?
Well we did the application urselves in the end and it worked out fine. Visa came through 2 weeks ago.
Slight change of plan too re Sydney but had an offer we could'nt refuse. We're due to arrive either the 3-4th December.
Be great to meet up in Mosman.
Keep in touch and lets us know when you land and are settled.
