What is your budget?

What is your intended use for the car...sporty daily? Weekend road car? Trackdays and motorsport?

sorry, should have been more specific!

since we now have a 'sensible' car the next one will be a bit less practical.

I used to have a BGT in the UK, and have looked at a few TR's here, mainly it has to drive me to work once a week and be used for fun at the weekend.

two seats, no roof and a good soundtrack are all good starting points - i am not too worried about value cause not much depreciates in WA!
so if i get what i paid for it back, come sell time, its running costs that are the main expense.
not too sure that i want to go down mega money route just yet as I'd quite like to enjoy the journey from cheaper classics before shelling out big money (130k) for a car in WA that in the UK would be GBP30k or so!

vague enough?!

open to suggestions, but like I say, unless i am looking in the wrong places, there is not much choice in Perth at the moment.
enlighten me!!

There's a supercharged MX5 for sale for about 10k.

Not interested in that one Colonial?

Completely biased but an MX5 with a turbo or supercharger is silly fun. Very cheap to run and easy to buy parts for to.

You could look at Westfield, PRB, Arrow etc and get yourself a clubman. Good used cars are $25-$30K. From what I have read around to build a nice Westfield or PRB will cost you $30-$40K depending on how you spec it. If I had the budget this would be my choice.

THere are lots of classic Fiat and Alfa sports cars here that are not to badly priced and generally seem to be owned by enthusiasts. Rust is not a problem here.

Too much faffing around to get it engineered for NSW - I'm going to buy one locally instead. If I was in WA I'd have it in the driveway by now.

Thats a shame. They do pop up on MY105.com a fair bit though they tend to be race only cars so no good if you still want to road drive it.

OP, might well be worth giving Colonial a shout about the details of this car. It's an MX5 that has been a solid performer on track in WA and the owner is moving it on because he has just built a V8 powered MX5.
The car is known to the WA MX5 scene so you could always have a nose around a club meet ( http://www.mx5club.com.au/ ) and ask about it and have a nose around www.mx5cartalk.com
As an added bonus it is painted in Gulf oil colours!

The MX5 club is having a sprint on Monday 27th (AM) at the RAC centre so you might be able to catch the owner there. You can also have a nose around my track bunky hehe

I realise that I am talking to MX5 folks here, but I am not sold on them yet (mainly, I have not driven one, perhaps its an image thing)

this was more the kind of thing I was looking at...

Job done!

I have a feeling that TVR has been around a long time. I wouldnt know if there is anything wrong with or if there is just nobody out there looking for one. I would hazard that it just has no interest...all the other TVR's have been around for years.

For that budget there is a heap of choice out there, carsales and my105 would be the best places to go through.

The Phoenix is a kit car from the UK, perhaps one of the most sorted kit cars out there for performance. I would leap on it if I had the coin and didnt already have project track bunky under way (and I wasnt already trying to convince the other half we need a shed with a vehicle hoist and space for a hot rod.)

If you want somthing civilised and open topped...what do Nissan 350Z's go for these days?

My TVR Tuscan is for sale at the right price. I'm looking at replacing it with a Bentley for weekend wafting. A Turbo R for about $50k would work for me.

Blue Emerald with medium fleck (see profile). Not advertised anywhere but always available for the right offer.

A very different colour from the one that i have seen for sale in Perth previously. Very nice.

I suspect this is a little out of the wife's price range though wink

I know the one in Perth you mean...its a proper fast and furious style colour. Its been for sale for a long long time as have all the TVRs in Perth! Personally I like the interior on it but hate the paint.

Any closer to deciding what you might like?

I was trying not to say the above, just in case someone here knows the owner, Perth's too small! (the paint..)

no hurry from me, I still think the prelude is pretty suited to Perth roads, being an auto and with good air con.
I just hanker after something a bit less 'chavvy'. mind you Preludes tend to be driven by grannies here, rather than 18 yr olds!

I still have to sell the Van and the Honda before buying a new toy, so its a long process.
fortunately, i like the looking as much as the buying bit smile
