Online Shopping in Aus
Discussion
Hi
Been looking online from the UK to try and get some stuff delivered for the inlaws in Oz, and there really doesn't to be a great deal on offer online, well not compared to the UK at least, and a number of sites I found don't accept international orders!!
Is it me, or has the whole online shopping thing not taken off down there?

Well it's a smaller market for starters plus delivery to "regional" Australia can be prohibitive logistically and financially.
However, another reason is the bandwith limits and slow download speeds on offer compared to UK & US where bandwith is generally unrestricted. The Government don't understand they need to tackle the monoply to invigorate the online market. It hampered the UK for years until the UK government forced BT to open up.

Its very poor here for online choice. They tend to either a) show some pdf based paper catalogue but not ability to order, or b)show their range but no prices.
For reference i have ordered a few things from Amazon UK to Oz with no issues/customs problems.
If you let us know what sort of thing you are after we might be able to point out a few sites that might assist.

Well I think they are just excuses. However, another reason is the bandwith limits and slow download speeds on offer compared to UK & US where bandwith is generally unrestricted. A market of 23 million is a good size, it's no excuse and plenty of countries, even NZ, are better online.
Regional Australia? Well Australia is amongst the most urbanised countries on earth, the majority of the population live in a few cities.
Not so sure about the bandwidth aspect either, plety of the US is pretty backwards too when it comes to this.
I think it is purely and simply the mentality of the average Australian and the average Australian business owner.
