Aussie IT industry + some general migrant advice
Discussion
Right,
Basically I'm 22 and graduated this year with a 2:2 in Computer Science. I had a job lined up here dependent on getting a 2:1, and am now at a bit of a loss as to what to do with my life.. I've never really left Britain before, so fancy a bit of a change. (Also want to get away from the nagging parents!)
I've got over a years experience of 1st line IT support. I've had a look at some Aussie job sites online and it looks like there are quite a few entry level jobs going that I have the experience/qualifications for. Does anybody have any first hand experience of the state of play of the industry over there? Am I likely to be employable? Is there any discrimination against Brits in the job market?
The whole working holiday visa stuff doesn't apply to me, as luckily I'm entitled to a NZ passport (my father was born there) so I can stay/work indefinitely.
Am I being a bit optimistic? would my plan of turning up in Sydney with a few $k in my pocket be feasible?

At 22 I would just come over and give it a try, what have you got to lose? If you havent got a job in the UK and you fancy a change (just in time for summer too!) the give it a go. The very fact you dont need to worry about Visa's etc as you have the NZ Passport - what are you waiting for.
I wouldnt limit yourself to Sydney though, keep an eye on all states to give you maximum flexibility with job opportunities.
Have a look on seek.com.au
Go for it I'd say... good luck.

BE CAREFULL!!!, ok so I was a bit older, 27 when I came over here for a year working- somehow I eneded up going back 10 years later- for 6 weeks to show my son how wonderful the Uk was (we were thinking of moving back) 6 weeks later back in AUS thinking you are welcome to the UK!
OK I class myself as English, not Australian (hence the sarcastic screen name) but its worth doing, IT industry is very open and people more interested in what you can do than anything else. Dont get stuck thinking Sydney is the only place, I ended up in Brisbane/Surfers Paradise area and think its great compared to Watford! Sometimes over to the islands with the family as its only an hours boat ride.
Its worth doing while you have the chance, you should have no regrets if you are sensible, ie bring money, referances and just prepare for a good time.

My wife works for a global computer company and she has been jobhunting since the start of the year. She's seen loads of graduate positions come up, mostly in Sydney or Melbourne, so I would say go for it. I can only encourage you to do so, there's absolutely nothing to lose. GOOD LUCK
The IT market is absolutly booming here in Melbourne, you'll have no issue at all getting 1st/2nd line support work if you've got a bit of experience under your belt.
We were recruiting recently and the vast majority of CVs sent to us were people who had been through a bootcamp style CCNA/MCP training course but with absolutly no real world experience so anyone with experience was looked on very favourably even if they had no certs at all.
Had an absolute nightmare finding good people, so if you sell yourself well you'll be snapped up in no time.
