Perth now has combined Red light and speed camera's at these intersections:

CANNING HWY/RISELEY STREET APPLECROSS
STIRLING HWY/ERIC STREET, COTTESLOE
CANNING HWY/DOUGLAS AVE. SOUTH PERTH
G.E.H./SHEPPERTON RD. VICTORIA PARK
ALBANY HWY/LEACH HWAY OFF RAMP, BENTLEY
WINTERFOLD RD/STOCK ROAD, HILTON
WANNEROO RD/BEACH ROAD, BALGA
LEACH HWY/BUNGAREE RD. WILSON
BEACH RD/MIRRABOOKA AVENUE BALGA
ROE HWY/KALAMUNDA ROAD, HIGH WYCOMBE
HEPBURN AVE/MARMION AVENUE, PADBURY
MORLEY DVE/ALEXANDER DVE. DIANELLA

These will go off for speed no matter what the colour of the light so forget going for gold and trying to nip through an Amber light!

That's what they claim they are for the prevention of, but it's clearly nothing but revenue raising. I am all for red light cameras and would be happy to see them on every junction, but this is so different. I went past one last night; you've got a busy intersection, yards after coming down from a 70 limit to a 60, you've to watch the traffic, the speedo, the traffic lights. Boils my piss it does.

I posted this when NSW introduced them http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0... cameras in NSW, you should read this

Not sure how you will be going with signage etc in WA, but I think this is absolutely scandellous.

The approaches to light controlled intersections are they same here with the sudden 20KMH drop in speed limit.

I can just see what the approach to these lights are going to be like now:

People crawling along 'just in case' the lights turn.

People driving up to the lights and braking to get below the limit.

People slamming their brakes on to stop for an amber light even if they are to close to do it without having to do a full emergency stop rather than continuing through.

It all sounds much safer than being able to just back off and roll through a few KMH over the limit but under the higher speed of the road leading up to it doesnt it?!?!
