I currently pay £375.00 per year on a classic car insurance for my 993. That covers 3k miles per year. Would love to hear your experiences good, bad and ugly.

Car insurance seems to be a bit less especially for the day to day stuff, not to sure about the higher end. Motorcycles seem to be more expensive to insure though. This is what I've found in Perth, may be different over east.

Just renewed my Elise 111R insurance, came out at $1400 for the 12 month period... then you add $400 for CTP so $1800 in total. In my opinion its more expensive than the UK, I was only paying £700 back in 2005 for a fully comp insurance on the same car (I imported it!).

My policy here has protected no claims and maximum no claims discount with an agreed replacement value of $75,500...

Scary when you convert it to £'s at todays exchange rate!!

Ive just renewed my 2003 Satria Gti insurance, AU$729 for a year incl. CTP. 40+ years old, agreed value just above market value, so to me thats quite cheap.

when we were living in Oz, our modified Caterham was almost 2X the UK when the CTP, etc were factored in. the only insurer that even knew what a Caterham was is Shannons, who seem to be the best on specialist calls.

now back in the UK, the cost is almost 2/3rds less than Oz....50 yrs, 9+ NCB, etc....YMMV

On the TVR it's a bit more expensive than when i was paying in the UK (£400 with Haggerty, vs $1300 with Shannons), on the rest of the fleet i'd say it's about the same with the exception of the 1977 BMW which is on a classic policy with the RACV for the sum total of $160 per year including totalcare breakdown cover.. smile

The service has been way better than i'd expect in the UK however, when an uninsured driver ran into the back of the Jag Shannons just covered it, no hassle on the repairs and no paying excesses/loss of no claims bonus etc. They dealt with the carnage of chasing the other party that a UK insurer would have washed their hands of.

These things are all very exchange rate dependant anyway. What's more expensive than the UK when it's $1.60 to £1 looks a bit different than when it's $2.50 to £1.

No seperate CTP in Vic, third party personal injury cover is included in the $612 yearly rego fee - which I think compares quite well to the cost of road tax in the UK too.
