So I was caught doing 102 in a 80 in NSW. The copper decided to give me the lower fine of $197 and said something about tourists not paying but that can get interest/arrest if I attempt to return to the country.

At first I figured I wouldn't bother paying. I'm driving on my UK licence, and should be leaving within a month. Also my licence has an old address on, so I genuinely won't get any letters...

I was driving a car which is in my own name and rego'd in WA.

But since I've heard some pretty bad stories, like they cancel the rego to pay for the fine. Will be sending letters and piling on the interest etc.

Any advice on what to do? The car is for sale at the moment but no-one is biting. While I don't think I'll return to Australia for some time, I may want to in 5-10 years or so and don't overly fancy getting arrested on arrival.

Covered just a few posts below Sir. There's no doubt your best advice is to pay it.

I dunno ... used to be that even out of state you could get away with it. Thats a while back though, and probably things have changed.

I just paid like 10 mins ago... reluctantly

  • Sigh* I wouldn't mind so much if I was in a lovely V8 RWD thingy, but no I was in a campervan doing what I genuinely thought was the speed limit frown
