Hi All,

I'm an Australian expat, currently enjoying the lovely British November in Bristol... (yes, that is sarcasm)

I'm considering sending a couple of cars home, and have become lost in the waffle on government websites.

I understand the SEVS process, but am looking for some clarification on pre '89 imports, if anyone can assist?

Do pre 89 imports require australian compliance plates, and if so, what alterations are required, how are the compliance plates acquired, and how much do they cost?

Note that it being called 'pre-1989' can cause a bit of confusion as the exact cut off date given is 01/01/1989 so in reality its 'pre December 1988'

When I bought a MK1 MR2 in I seem to remember there was not a huge amount done for compliance...indicator lenses had to be coluored, ADR marked seatbelts, tyres, side impact door beams. Mine did fail rego on exhaust noise and ride height but thats another story.

If you have over 12 months left and your not planning on leaving the counry you will have time to do a personal import which pretty much allows you to bring anything in.
