Yes indeed. Why?

You could get the same or better for cheaper in the UK. Strikes me as a no brainer. Ford Falcon XR8 ute, yes. Honda, no.

Look up what you want to export on a UK site. IMO it will be half the Aussie value.

Thanks Bob, I already looked, quite a few dealers have them, the price is reasonable, how do I do an import?

Are you looking at a brand new one? If so, I wouldn't do it. Depending on what it is it may not even be built in the same factory as the UK model(Aus gets a fair few from Thailand, UK is mainly Japan and local).

If it is a wierd spec it will be worth less than the UK spec car come time to get rid.

Almost everything here is dearer than the UK anyway, so that plus shipping means I can't see how it would be worthwhile.

Parts could be an issue - I expect the J spec grey import stuff has fairly good support, but an Aus spec car could be a nightmare to get bits for.

thailand model yes
ok maybe I should be asking about importing from there instead
I just thought that since theyre available at Aus dealers at a competitive price, there would be a known process

You would need to contact your own local authorities about importing a car. There are set ways of getting a car IN to Aus but getting one out would be as simple as having it put in a container or rolled on to a boat.

Would presume the process at the UK end would be the same as for all the Jap import skylines/taragos etc, SVA approval or something i think it was called.

I would also think that 15% VAT would need to be paid on it too on top of any other import fees, which could stuff up the economics of it.

There should be tons of info on the web about low volume/special vehicle imports to the UK as just about every minicab in London was a grey import tarago when we left.

Out of interest what model are you thinking of shipping there?

Now that's one thing I would never think of doing. I actually looked at Hondas here in Oz before going to live in the UK. Prices were (and still are) horrendous here. Ended up buying two Hondas in the UK. They were pretty much 35% of the OZ price (for a comparable model).
