Thinking of buying the above as fed up with being caught. Apparently they are legal in WA so not planning to discuss that in too much depth.

I am interested in whether they work well and if people have integrated or dash mounted detectors? Any info on experiences would be useful.

I'm thinking of a Whistler XTR-695 and a GF-100 laser gun jammer (two little sensors sited on the front bumper). I can use the whistler with a jack plug and headphones on my motorbike too!!

Also anyone had experience of TCG industrial who run the www.radars.com.au website?

Cheers,

Marcus.

I had a radar detector a while ago it was good for the car mounted units, I t picked them up for a few kms before you got to them.

The hand helds where harder to get as they only emit a signal when the officer presses the button but by that time he already has your speed

Multinovas it picked them up just as you where just about on top of them so you had to jump on the brakes straight away

It was a bell unit before some low life scum helped themselves to it

No, if they catch you with one, you will be toast.

Illegal anywhere in Aus. Its pretty obvious to the officer operating the gun as it does crazy things...numbers jumping up and down or giving an impossible reading. You can expect them to pull you over and go over your car with a fine tooth comb if they suspect you of having one.

I have read that the new cameras that get you from the rear are not as easy to detect with exisiting detectors though there are some tricks.

For those that are interstate...I have heard that some aftermarket reverse sensors that emit a beep inside the car as your reversing (beeps get quciker as you get closer to an object) will be triggered by cameras. Up to you if you need the sensors on the front of your car to help you park whistle

I had also heard of parking sensors that, if wired to stay on all the time and put on the front of the car would also jam any laser guns. Easy to google and prob easy to get away with in court smile I have a tight garage and might look at such a device to "help me park".
Any gun jammer is a dead givaway and i am sure your car would be ripped apart too!

Cheers Chaps...

I'll need to decide whether to take the risk on the jammer but I already have front parking sensors on my Lexus GS430.

I am still keen to know if anyone has fitted the laser jammer or radar detectors and if anyone has used TCG industrial in Perth?

Thanks,

Marcus.

I have never fitted a detector or jammer to my car but I used to regularly drive a car with a detector fitted. It was okay I guess...more annoying than anything as it used to make noises all the time even if there was not a camera or laser gun in use so you would find yourself slowing down and scanning the roadside for no reason. I can't remember the brand but it was not speed sensitive so once speed start to get a bit heady there was not enough warning to get down to the speed limit.

FWIW I have been here for 5 years now and I have not receivd a single fine or point and I'm not one to hang around either. Unless your in the habit of getting fines and points I couldnt justify the $600 or so they cost. Maybe I have just been exceptionally lucky as most expats I know managed to rack up the points after only a couple of months here!

Very much leaning towards that school of thought myself. I have been doing the odd trackday but its not enough!! There are some bloody tempting cars on my105.com.au which doesnt help!

Hi all, new to this forum and looking forward to being an active member in the community
Im from Australia found the topic on radar detectors interesting here, the site www.radars.com.au was very informative i also found a couple others www.radarsdirect.com.au and others. There are interesting points on a lot of these but has anyone here evee bought a valentine one? im tossing up between the whistler or the valentine one, so if someone here has any personal experiences that would be great to share.

Cheers,

David

Hi David, welcome to the forum! I see you are in Perth; we try and get together when we can so keep active. What do you drive at the moment?

I still have not bothered buying one of these, I am normally pretty good at spotting a camera or police by the side of the road and I KNOW that I have been past a couple of camera's well beyond the speed limit yet I have never received a ticket hehe Maybe I am just lucky! I just don't see the value in these detectors unless you are racking up $500 a year on them.
