South City Star
Discussion
Well I'm CiderlesswithoutCerbie in Melbourne at the moment, but the Cerb is on a boat due to arrive next month. (Does anyone know where to get a decent bottle of Cider in Melbourne and no I don't mean Strongbow or Magners...)
I have followed the 'how to do a personal import' threads with interest and have been searching around for a reliable contact to do any compliance work on the car (which will basically be a high level brake light, seat belts and child seat security points). I found an Austrian guy through Vic Roads who works with some mechanics in Prospect Hill (Canterbury 3126) but then a friend of mine saw a TVR sign in South Melbourne! This led me to find the garage, South City Star, that says it services 'Prestige Cars' and I met an extraordinary chap called Peter Robinson who owns the place.
Has anyone on here done business with South City Star or Mr. R? He made some very interesting claims about TVR and his involvement in "the Consortium" which lost out to Smolenski when Peter W sold up, and his racing contacts in Australia, the UK and beyond. He had some interesting bits in the garage inc a Griff 500, a Lotus Esprit turbo and a stripped down (to bare metal) DB6 with 'unique' running gear, as well as an LMP2 type racing with a 1.5 litre twin supercharged lump putting out 800bhp(?)! He certainly seems to know his stuff but it's all a bit eccentric.
I would appreciate an e-mail from someone with experience of using South City Star or who knows Mr. Robinson...

ISTR there being previous mentions of this chap on here, but don't have time to search now...
Richard, you going to join us on a Perth PH meet sometime? Would love to see the car, have never seen one "in real life"
I think we should invade his place of business for a PH meet Richard, you going to join us on a Perth PH meet sometime? Would love to see the car, have never seen one "in real life"
Yep, there's a few TVRs getting about in Melbourne. Spotted a Chim heading up St Kilda Rd this morning on my way to work randomly.
There is indeed quite an extensive thread on South City Star and Mr Robinson, just a had a brief look for it myself but can't see it now. Not sure if it was just part of another larger dicussion or potentially might have been removed due to some of its content being rather less than complementary shall we say.
I use the guys in Camberwell (the Prospect Hill Rd place you mentioned) for any work on my Chim, and they did the compliancing for me without issue.
Drop me a pm/email and will happily share all the info i have.

Hi Ciderwithcerbie,
I imported and complianced my Griff 500 though Peter (Sth City Star) back in 2002. My Griff is in his garage at present. I have used his services during the past 7 years so feel free to email me if you require more information - you will be hard pressed to find someone in Melbourne with more experience and knowledge of TVR's.
