I wonder if any of you could help me, I'm the Sales Manager for a prominent independent Porsche specialist in the UK. Recently we've done a bit of business with Australia on older Porsches. We have cheap shipping to Australia and the deals have been pretty straightforward so we would like to extend our operation out there.

I wondered which websites to advertise on, where do you guys look for your cars? Is there an equivalent of PH or Autotrader in Australia?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Mark

When looking for used 911 I looked here

www.carsales.com.au

www.drive.com.au

www.porscheclub.org.au (market place)

Mark, this is probably quite interesting to the Aussie lot here as we've discussed shipping, buying from UK etc and it seems either a)quite expensive or/and b) the need to have owned said vehicle in the UK for 12 months.

Whats your proposal for shipping cars over for buyers here given the strict DOTAR import requirements?

I've given this a fair bit of thought over time and reckon the best car to import would be 1970s up to SCs, early 3.2 Carreras from Germany, since over 25 years old you can get the LHD registered. And they would go for a LOT of money here. and there's a good feeding pool on the continent. something similar to www.fuchs.co.uk

In WA the LHD is not such a restriction.

But yes, Mark, please, tell us more.

another couple of common car classifieds to add to the list are
ebay.com.au
tradingpost.com.au

Carsales allegedly rapes dealers on the advertising costs, carpoint and uniquecars also fall under their branding now. They have cornered a fair chunk of the market now so even a standard ad on there is like $50 and $80 for a premium ad which is pretty outrageous really, only a few years ago it was a fraction of that, although other sites aren't exactly a bargain either, $30-50 for trading post, eBay isn't too bad, you can get away with as little as $10 there, but they do try and sting you for every little extra bit and ebay does seem to attract more time wasters.
