245/40R18 tyres - best place to buy online?
Discussion
Hi,
I will soon need a set of tyres for a 2007 Lexus GS430. It has Dunlop SP2030s as originals (same as UK) and they aren't bad, not the grippiest but low noise and good wear at the very low speeds here.
Anyone know the best place to buy new tyres online?
Can I expect to get shafted compared to UK prices?
Cheers,
Marcus.

Not many online places in Aus. The only one that really springs to mind is www.tempetyres.com.au
I know that when the exchange rate is favourable www.tirerack.com in America is popular especially for high performance tyres which tend to be pretty pricey here.
You could try www.iandiffen.com.au I have had tyres from them in the past and they were a reasonable price but I dont think they do an online shop as such.
Definately shop around though. The high street chains seem to start off with a quite frankly rediculous price until you push them or tell them so and so can do better. I just had to stop a bloke at work letting his daughter pay near as damn it $300 for a single mid range Dunlop from a chain store!!!

I've gotten some really good deals at my local Bob Jane - Yoko Advans in 17/235/45 for $190 a corner, Pirelli P zero for $170 a corner, things like that.
gotten?! Andrew I didn't picture you as a Yankophile Jolly poor show. I retract my statement, and wish to add "I have received some jolly fair prices" instead.

245/45VR18 good enough or profile too high?
No I need 245/40/18s, cheers. My car came with Bridgestone Turanza's on it. I was a bit dubious at first as they are normally marketed as the safe choice for family cars with hand wringing mothers at the wheel but the dry grip is very impressive....the wet grip I'm not so sure about yet but I have not had a real chance to push them in the wet.
I'm doing a trackday on them tomorrow so I'll see just how good that dry grip is!

I just replaced the rears on the Monaro (235/40/18). Had P Zero Rossos on it but at $560 each I was looking for something cheaper (but not a no name tyre)
Got a pair of Pirelli "Dragon" at $240 each... I kept the Rossos on the front, so might be a bit more oversteery now... I'd rather that than understeer, much more fun (and to me at least, safer)
I'll let you know how they go.

I forgot to update this...
I really liked those Bridgestones on track. Obviously not as much grip as say the Adrenaline or RE performance series but I was very suprised by the amount of grip they offered. They broke away quite smoothly and even with my hamfisted driving only displayed some light feathering on the edge of the tread blocks.
I think they must have very stiff sidewalls to, no evidence of them rolling over at all.
If the higher level performance stuff is to expensive then I would have no problems with using them again.
So now Tim has new tyres... are you coming on the AHG day with me and Della

Come on Tim, get yourself booked up for the 19th of June.
I'd love to tell the lads back home that I'd shared track time with a 12 times over Bathurst winner.
I'm sure that's whst Dev said a while back.
