thanks SkinnyBoy, ill give it a go.

the quotes that I have been getting at the moment are around $10au per tile - just to install.

I already have a stack of tiles left over from the previous extension so it must be something about the job because the prices seamed to have tripled since the last roof I had installed 12 months back.

ps another place that is worth a try is "service central"

my mates a builder, I'll ask him tomorrow does he know anyone worth recommending. Something hit our roof last night with the high winds and cracked a couple of tiles so i have to get them fixed ASAP! Where in Melbourne are you fella?

im in the monash area, near chadstone.

if you need a repair most of the places that advertise in the local newspapers seam to be ok for the repairs/beading and pointing, but are not interested in a small job like a carport - to big for thoes guys as most of them seam to be one man operations. meanwhile the larger mobs that do the roof tile installs are not interested in the small carport as there is not enough work in it for them.

i think its around the 350 tile mark. id do it myself but with the rest of the renos there is just so much else to do that getting a hand when i can is nice. this seams like a big enough job - and easy enough job that some one should be able to do it.

if i lost my job today i think id look into starting a tiling company, i cant understand where the price is "in-it" for these quotes im getting.

anyway - try the local papers for repairs that you need if they are ASAP.

Do it sooner rather than later. The raft of spending on infrastructure is going to drive up the cost of getting any building works done in the near future - more work than people to do it basically.
