2 years! I'm sure mine is 5 years...so I could probably apply now in time for October.

Are you sure you are fully assimilated in to society?

I too am eligible but it's one of those things I put in the 'must get around to that' box.

How much does it cost, I seem to remmebr all up, once you've done your test etc and had your ceremony, and got your passport you're looking at $600-odd?

I must admit didnt look at the cost too much.

The test is free.

Then you do the application and thats $240.

Then i presume its passport (not sure)

And not sure about ceremony.

I'm only getting it so i can pick the shortest passport queue at Perth Airport.....

Only if you can drive with bare feet and count chicken parmy and chips as a proper bit of classy cooking.

Oh you also have to develop a hate of anything with a spicy heat beyond mildly peppered but somehow still manage to stomach EB/VB/Mid strength/Crownies/Hahn/Tooheys etc etc.

Is it bad that the one thing I don't like about my car is that it has metal pedals, therefore making it hard to drive barefoot?

You will also need to express contempt towards any foreign citizen, except when you require food late at night. Hate any form of culture and regard people who drink white wine with contempt and generally spend all your time on the dole, drinking cheap beer and complaining about how the "chardonnay/latte sippers" have ruined all that is good.

Only if you use the word 'Australian' to mean that something is blindly and automatically superior to anything else in the world ever. And that 'un-Australian' is the worst thing in the world ever. And you accept that Australians invented pies, burgers, bbqs, beetroot blah blah

You will also need a sticker set for your car including:

Frangipanis (sp?)
Feck off were full (Love the grammar in those stickers!)
Aussie pride
Southern cross
Peter Brock
G-Unit
Skins (you would get tugged for that in the UK...Skins were a punk / nazi gang and is generally seen tattooed on the neck of pikeys that have been to prison for a variety of crimes including murder, murder murder and severe murduring until dead)

Also make sure you get the most drone worthy exhaust you can and fit it to your automatic, V6 commode along with 22 inch chromies and lexus lights. To complete the look fit ebay spec HID lights...these will only illuminate the other lane of oncoming traffic so put your foggies on to illuminate your own lane.

Speaking of those feck off were full stickers. A white trash neighbour has one on his car.

Too bad his wife is from the Phillipines.

What test?

Written?

Oral?

Totting up?

st, I've got all this to come...

I've already got a criminal record, so that's done - a UK speeding from 1989 (142 in a 70...rolleyes) - but it still means I've got to tick the criminal record box EVERY time I re-enter Aus...

I've got a home brew kit - does that count?

I bough some Reef thongs ...with the bottle openers on the soles:

I've eaten a kentucky fried icecream...

...and I've started saying Aaah-yeaah-luk, errr, before each sentence.

Suppose I've got a year to get some tats and a Ute.

Not necessarily, you can stay forever on a permanent residency visa

15 months in and another 9 to go before i can apply. In perth the wait to get sworn in is about 3-5 months! Had a guy at work just go through it. Also his wife didnt get accepted at the same time as he did even tho they are on the same visa. Ohh how we laughed..... Dont you love red tape.
Nobody has ever had to do 5 years, the most is 4 out of 5 before you can apply, or if your on an older visa like Me and Pomm its 2 out of 5. Got my visa 2003

This is exactly what I'm hoping to do and had heard a rumour about the 4 out of 5 year rule being introduced. Do you know exactly when the cut off was implemented?

Our perm visa runs from 2007-2012 and I THINK I got in before the rule change, but then I heard something retorspective being introduced or something about a 3year period, so bit confused.

Any help appreciated

Yes, the cutoff is that if you gained your permanent residency after 1st July 07 then you can apply after 4 years. Prior to that I think it was 2 years.

Your permanent visa shouldn't run out in 2012..?!?! It's exactly what it is, permanent, though officially speaking you are supposed to apply for a return residents visa, though I think this would only become a technicality if you left the country for several years on your PR visa.
