Flipping 'tard. I love the clear cut message he is sending out:
"The overwhelming majority are P-platers because we've got a zero tolerance for P-platers speeding, so I can't apologise for being tough on P-platers," he said.
"Some people want me to be tougher. I don't know how much tougher I can be. We want to send a message that there is no such thing as safe speeding because there isn't."
Followed by:
But Mr Daley acknowledged losing three demerit points for low range speeding was harsh.
"I still say losing three points for low range speeding - five, six or seven kilometres over the limit - is harsh. It's unfair. I'll be lowering that."

I don't think any of them actually know what they are doing. The whole demerit points for being 1kmh over the limit is complete nonsense.
I wonder if they've thought of a similar system to the UK. Something like:
1) All urban limits are 50 kmh instead of 60.
2) All school zones are 40 all day, with clear markings on the road etc. Would help avoid the "A school zone, what time is it, what time does the sign say" I go through everytime I come across one.
3) Have a 10% tolerance (maybe except in school zones) which is in line with the +/-10% accuracy requirement in the ADRs (yes, it is legal to produce a car with a speedo that underreads by 10%). Makes me wonder if the "exceeding the speedlimit by less than 10%" law is even legal - although not being a permanent resident I wasn't going to push it.
4) Anyone over the 10% gets 3 points, which stay on for 5 years. Once you get 12, lose your license - maybe 6 for a P Plater?
Although I suspect the above would result in a serious drop in revenue, which as we all know is the main aim of speeding laws.

so you can run over children with impunity as your defence was you were busy watching your speedo?
Its amazing, in the last 8 years (since 9/11) the world has gone under a neo-con transformation with draconian steps from the states (all countries) meddeling with our liberties.
As long as your not speeding...'cos you know...speeding kills innit so if your not speeding they should just bounce off?Its amazing, in the last 8 years (since 9/11) the world has gone under a neo-con transformation with draconian steps from the states (all countries) meddeling with our liberties.
I agree with what you are saying. Its why I always advise people to be very careful about their choices when they go on about wanting to emigrate and "last one out turn the lights off". The rot is spreading far and wide and I think people will be thoroughly miserable when the shine rubs off and they realise they gave up their friends, family and home country for something not that different.
