This last week has seen the temperature rise into the mid 40's here in Melbourne, whilst this is great when you are at the beach and got your hand round an icy cool beverage, what i can't stand is the amount of people who moan at this! FFS, Australia is a hot country, enjoy it!

And they say us poms whinge!

I'm struggling to find it hot.

The Kiwi who works with me packs it in long before me, i'm out there getting my daily dose of skin cancer and he's in the workshop trying to find something to do indoors.

Sat a week ago i had to catch a flight from Sydney -> Boston .....

When I left Sydney the driver's temp gauge was showing 46C

When I landed Boston it was -22C

So I underwent a complete temperature shock of -60C change in 20 hours.....

Now back home, I left Boston @ -4C and got home to a balmy 29C...

That'll do your noodle in and make you feel completely b*ggered!

today was 47 in Melbourne - I love the heat (dry not humid) and like said prior, last week was a record number of days over 43 but that extra 4 degrees when I was in the centre of town this arvo was simply insane - it felt like I was standing in front of a giant heat gun blowing 100kmh hot air in my face; was unreal. Turns out its the hottest temp ever recorded in any Oz capital city.

Heart goes out to the families around Melbourne tonight that have lost one of the hundreds of homes that were razed in today's firestorm. Worse still is that estimates around 40 people have perished.

47, Bloody Hell!!!!
I heard the Hume was cut in a few places due to the fires. I remember Ash Wednesday, when the sky was black due to the fires.

Just checked The Age website - 25 have died, and more than 40 expected. Very bad news.
Same conditions as Ash Wednesday leading up to yesterday's fires - several years of drought and extreme temperatures.

I remember it as well, was only a boy at the time still in primary school but the sky all around was black and gray. Enjoy the heat, it's better than the snow over here in the uk

108 now and expected to rise as the rescue workers make their way around the communities frown

Communities completely destroyed and some of the fires started on purpose.

I also read that burns units are running desperately low on Morphine.

I know the area's hit well - tree regrow, houses can be replaced, villages and communities take a time to be reborn, but lives can not be replaced.

I've been watching BBC news and listening to people telling stories about what they've lost is incredible as you said houses can be rebuilt but it's the loss of family photos and family airlooms. My parents live about 20minutes from the yarra valley where the fires are coming to, their getting a bit nervous as they can smell the smoke.
I'm in camberley in Surrey by the way smack.

it's upto 128 people now.

I can not think of a worse death than that of fire. The pictures of the area are truely awful, especially when you see the car's and the like that had people in them trying to escape.

One report was of a family who were just about to escape, the bloke put his children in the car, he when to get something from the house, he got to the front door, turned around, the car was in flames. Truely horrific.

Personally i cant stand the heat, i get heat stroke easily and burn pretty quick too. I know your question, and i dont know why i chose Aus smile Autumn and Spring make up for it for me. As a fitter i work indoors fortunately, so at least the temp is the same as the air temp and i am not under the sun all day!

Hope your parents are are ok. My parents have crown land next to them in the north, grass land and river gums (next to a river), but some tt started a fire there a few years back, less than 200m from their house. The CFA arrived quite quickly and put it out before it was too late, else it could have gone into the State Forrest a little further along, and risking quite a lot of houses aswell.

I'm a stones throw away in Woking. Up for a beer sometime? I'd love to see you Chim
