Hi chaps, forgive me for diving straight in without searching this forum first but which Australian websites are best to use to find jobs on the west coast? (Google doesn't want to be my friend) and the only question I have is if there is any limitation on dog breeds from the UK?

Thanks in advance smile
Cool! Sounds like we're about to have a real live mod joining our growing West Coast PH group (the centre of the PH world in Oz wink )thumbup

Been a while since I went job hunting so can't help you there but I'm sure someone will be along soon.

Just looking, or making plans yet Gaz?

'The West' newspaper has a job search. I think Wednesdays is when the latest jobs go in the paper.

can also try careerone.com.au , things getting tighter on jobs front here, a lot will depend on your trade. On the dog front many states outlaw pitbulls and suchlike( they are too tough) but most are ok, they taste like chicken!

What kind of dogs do you have? Staffies and the like are very popular here.

Also I will run out the usual advice: If you have an interesting car make sure you have had continuous use for 12 months and bring it out here as a personal import. If you dont have anything good buy something!! Look at www.carsales.com.au and search for your sort of car for a guide on what they are worth here.

Sorry for partly hijacking a thread but I'm also considering the move. Visa is not a problem as I have dual nationality but was wondering what the market is like for IT (ITIL/Service based) jobs in WA and what kind of salary I could expect.

Thanks in advance
Jay

Hi,

I arrived in WA in late October and started a job search then (have hopefully secured something now). I am told that many IT companies have stopped recruiting except for technical / key project roles. Some are laying people off. They are affected by many of their resource based clients reigning in spending or laying people off. It is also summer and typically quiet but my reading from speaking to agencies and others is that things were booming until September - more jobs than people. Now that has changed and agencies are unsure what will happen after the Christmas / summer break.

Here are a couple of sites:

Cheers.

Thanks for the info, it confirms what I thought having trawled a few of the job sites.

I guess I may have to delay the move until the whole global economy issue improves.....either that or retrain in a more in demand field.....the way things are looking I may have time to complete the 7 year architect degree!

The construction industry appears to be delaying any new projects until such time that there is sufficient interest to sell what they are building.

Unfortunatley, architects get it first, so although the construction sites still appear busy at the moment, it will filter down once the contractors have finished their current contracts.

On the up side for me, although we feel the pain first, we are usually one of the first to get the work back on stream, when things start moving. Fortunaltley, we are still busy, but projects are being held up which would have been given the go ahead if the world had not self imploded.

No matter what the politicians say, the recession appears to have hit WA. Still, the sun is shining........

Just to clarify....the architect reference had more to do with the 7 years it takes to qualify; as I don't believe the global recession is going to be a short term issue!
