Exporting a UK car from Oz back to UK?
Discussion
Hmmm,
I have a friend in Sydney looking at the reversal question....say he had SORN'd his UK car, and imported it via DOTARS PI scheme and have it road registered in Oz. Then he were to get a job offer in his company to go back to the UK, what kind of B.S. would he have to go through to take the car back to Blighty?
I suspect it's not much to do, other than clean & polish it (and put it in the shipping container with his stuff!), if the rego has been SORN'd since you exported it. As long as it is currently road registered in Oz, seems to me he'd be OK to drive it when he's back in the UK to get a yearly inspection then stick back on his UK plates which he kept (smartly!).
The above of course presumes he has all his UK and Oz paperwork of course which I know he does!
Am I missing something here? He doesn't have much interweb access and asked me about this at dinner last night.....
THe only fly in the ointment I can discover on speaking with him is that he didn't fill out a temporary export form with the DVLA -- his shipper didn't tell him to and now he's worried he can't take his pride and joy back..
Thoughts?

On his annual UK rego form that he received from the DVLA there was a little slip to fill out if the vehicle were being exported. Maybe he can still do it if it was within 12 months.
By far the better option is to sell (make a tidy profit) and buy a better one upon his return.
That opportunity does not come up often.
