Ha Ha - I've escaped Australia 'till the 5th. No double demerit points or pollie pay rise tax for "driving in a manner such as to make the wheels revolve in a circular manner" for me these holidays woohoo

Hmmm I might have a fine on the way.

On South West Hwy this afternoon which is very long, very straight and was very VERY empty. Limit is 110 and I was sat at an indicated 120 trying to resist sitting on a more sensible speed when I spied a teeny tiny blue sign on the side of the road with a picture of a camera on it and some text thanking me for not speeding past said camera. I didnt see the camera or a flas as I was paying attention to the road wink Maybe the camera wasnt there or it was very well hidden.

If I do get a fine I think it should only be a 0-9kmh over fine though as my speedo does read high a touch.

So I'm tootling southbound on the Mitchell from Joondalup at a highly dangerous 110 klicks (100 klick limit).
I'm almost alongside white-van-man (you definitely get them here in Oz too) performing a slow-ish overtake as I was fed up with his door mirror dazzling me while it flapped around hanging off it's mounting when lo and behold he pulls out smack-dab in front of me causing a major brake test!!!

He was in the process of overtaking the car approx half a km ahead.
He was completely oblivious to any car passing him in the right hand lane!

Who is in the wrong in the eyes of the non-existant traffic police, clearly me.

I have never yet seen a police patrol car on this freeway and I use it morning, noon and and night, day in day out.

I hope you've been lucky there James and dodged the fine/points/bullet. yes

WTF is wrong with traffic at the moment?

Drove down to Sydney on sat (live 1 hr north). 110 speed limit. Right hand lane, everyone doing 95, middle lane all doing 90, left hand lane not another car in sight except for a diesel country spec Merc E class, my car and a Forester GT, all with cruise control at 116 and making excellent progress.

Driving back at 11 at night, empty roads, but every single dopey sack of doo doo was sitting in the right hand land 15-20 below the speed limit

I hate driving at this time of year.

I'm not sure about "at the moment" Andrew, what you describe seems to be normal service here, in WA anyway.

Still, I suppose it's better than the chaotic behaviour in Dubai where I was living before.
I just had higher expectations of the road craft here.
Oh well!!!

It's not normally that bad in NSW - bad but not quite as bad.

I do 40,000km a year and generally don't have a trouble. Just all the people who have no idea how to drive on the open road are out and about. Really annoying when some of us are still working and all that.

in the name of all things Holy, WTF are drivers ingesting right now, every day since mid-last week? it's not just the abject 4-D stupidity of driving 10-30K in the outside lane, nor the tailgating, nor the inability to indicate until ON the roundabout, it's a some kind of horror show!

people are in queues for miles, you get to the top of it and there's bugger all there, people that seem completely oblivious to lights turning colours like GREEN, backing into each other @ the grocery store because of lack of mirrors, vapid lane changing for no f**king reason.

you'd had thought i live in the Idiot's Village -- but it's all up and down the East Coast from Brisvegas <-> Sydney

me thinks the Caterham may stay in the garage all over the break!

To all the WA guys, did you see ANY booze busses or police over the festive period? I didnt see one and i live in Northbridge! Normally see or get pulled by a bus every second week. Saw nothing for 14 days, well a solitary highway car one day on a drive out.

Nope I did not see a single one either even after leaving the firework display in Rockingham.
I did see lots of police motorbikes over the last fortnight though.

No RBTs spotted in NSW. Just hidden camera cars

Yeah, that really works. Nothing more than money raising.

DD ended, ESP came off, and my fuel concumption went from 7.2L/100km to 10.2L/100km

Matey with an Elise and a Cooper-S got RBT'd 5 times between Xmas -> NYE in Sydney. Thankfully for him, nothing came of it.

SWMBO and I saw a RBT on the Cahill Expy one night, and the "normal" Kurraba Road Neutral Bay one on a Friday after lunch.

i was wise and left the Se7en in the garage the whole time, can't afford a ban ;-)

Saw a late model Mitsui Lancer SW with red P plates pull over an unsuspecting person of middle eastern appearance on the Hume Hwy at Chullora in Sydney this afternoon.

Jeeze, bit difference to up here around Gosford. The usual RBT spots were empty, unmarked cars were just cruising around pining people doing 65 in 60 zones, because that is the most lucrative, I mean safest, thing they can be doing.

I managed to pick up more points at this, my favourite time of year, for getting them.

7:20am, bright, dry morning, with one other vehicle on the otherwise deserted road from Lacelin to Perth (nrth of the freeway). Nice empty Dual carraigeway. Speed limit is 90kph (55mph ffs!!!)

the motorbike 1/2k front of me does not blink his brakes (no need to as they are forward facing scameras here, not number plate grabbers) so I do not get any warning of the camera that was hidden behind a tree in the middle of the 2k straight.

My blood boils at this.
The Bike in front of me, going far quicker, will get away scot free as he has no front number plate.

I didn't see one police car or bike for the whole break, which is great. What do they do though, tell every one it is double points and then p*ss off on holiday? Anyway, if they had been about policing they would have seen plenty of appaling driving going on, mostly on or around the speed limit. Perhaps the next step will be for all motoring laws except speeding to be rescinded (maybe this has already happened?) then the police to come out once a week but on a random day to check speeding only, then if you are caught more than 5kph over the limit you get put in some stocks for a week.
