take a look at the link below - only a few posts down on the same page as your original post
you need to have owned it 12 months continuously and be ab le to prove it - insurance papers, service history, etc. Yu will then need to apply for an import permit. Costs - varies depending on the cars assessed value. I have a 2004 Lotus Elise 111R and reckomn it will cost A$8000-A$9000 to get it from the UK and on the road in Sydney
word of advice - don't be cute with the rulesof importing. Follow them implicitly or the Aust govt will reject your application

by the way - you cannot deive on UK plates. You will have to get WA plates

If you're just coming for a year you can bring it in on a "Carnet de Passage" - which would allow you to drive it on UK plates for the year over here but you -must- export it again at the end of your trip.
Not cheap though - need to lodge a bond as a security deposit which is only returned when the car is back in the UK at the end of the carnet.
It's the RAC that issue carnets in the UK so here's the info.

I hope its your XJ220. Love to see one of those on the roads over here. Not seen a 220 on the roads since 1999!!!
P.S. please bear in mind that (personally) the majority of roads here are either boring as hell or full of the worst drivers in the world. Think carefully about bringing smething you love...

I guess if your on holiday you can make the time to treck 50 minutes to get to a proper bit of road!
If his XJ is coming over I have no doubt that it would be the only one in WA if not the only one in Australia. I wouldnt even want to hazard a guess at who would maintain it and insure it while its here...Heck I doubt you can even buy tyres that big with any sort of urgency in WA!!
