Hi guys

I'm coming to sydney on my girlfriends 457 visa, does anyone know if i'm allowed to bring a car over in this circumstance? we're not coming until August 2009.

Thanks

I think theres at least 1 or 2 threads discussing this, maybe they are on page 2.

Also check out http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/bull...

As far as I read, its pretty difficult on a 457.

Thanks for that, looks like it is possible. I want to bring the Noble out there.

Yeah, was reading that link. Its interesting as I know of another Noble out in Oz and he payed 6k to get his out and the car was valued at 20k but this link adds upto 8k, which worries me a bit as I'm budgeting for 6k.

About 5yrs ago my mate took his elise out to Oz at a cost of 4k

My brother inlaw does shipping so hope to get a deal.

You can cut a lot of the cost if you don't mind using RORO or shared container. RORO cost 1100 (pounds) and shared container cost around 1500 (pounds). This price includes all handling cost at the wharf in sydney. add another 300 (pounds) for a customs broker to clear your car for you including all customs cost (excluding duty and gst). You can get a valuation for your car for about 100 (pounds). All up including duty, GST, registration and stamp duty, you could get away with shipping your car and register it here for about $10K which is less than 6k (pounds) but that depends on how much the landed valuation is for the Noble.

Thanks for that, I have the evaluation sorted as I'm using the same guy as used when my mate shipped his elise.

Will look into what you have suggested.

The issue with the 457 visa is that at the moment my GF will go out on that with me as her partner (not sure if I have the same rights for personal import if I'm on here visa (waiting for answer back from an email)).

I would hope to sort a job out myself but electronic manufacturing is not that big in Oz (although Sydney does seem to have a few) and then get a 457 myself.

Beginning to have second thoughts about bringing the Tuscan. If I have to have the sound muffled I don't reckon I wil get the same driving experience frown Looks like putting it into storage until I decide that I will stay in Aus is the right decision at present. The real question is what do I buy instead ?

you only have to reduce the noise level just for the compliance test. You can put the original cans back once you've passed the test. I did and never had any problems with it since. Bring it!

Yep just get it quiet to put it on the road.

The police are very strict on modified cars here but in a rare sportscar and being a bit older than the average hoon (I assume) they will probably turn a blind eye to it. You can always get a permit for the exhaust if your that worried about it.
