Hi All

I have been in Sydney for 5 months now and have decided to get a job, I have been offered an IT contract and was wondering the best way to work here. I was an IT contractor in the UK for 14 years and worked through a LTD company. Is it best to do that here or shall I just go PAYE (or the Oz equivalent)?

Thanks Sean

Pretty much the same thing , they have an 80/20 rule here e.g if all your income is derived from one source they consider you a PAYE in the tax office eyes anyhow.

If you have a genuine business LTD CO is fine , but its nothing like the UK.....
Just remember you will have to file ASIC and GST every Qtr and annual returns , Im no expert but I reckon it costs 2-3k to run a company with minimal input from an accountant.

You need to think of workers comp , super , returns

Hope it helps , maybe look for someone witha company that will host you

You'll probably find an umbrella/management company is your best bet especially if you are on a temporary working visa since they'll be able to claim "living away from home allowance" etc for you which will cut your tax considerably.

There are loads of them about, Freespirit, Entity Solutions (although i wouldn't recommend them at all), CXC, etc etc.
