Deviant - Did you get the XR5?

Sigh....Nope
The Astra has been for sale for 8-10 weeks just about everywhere I can think of with only 2 or 3 people showing interest that decided not to bother showing up after organising to do so
Looks like I am just going to hang on to it for a few months and then see what the market is like.
I think the used / private market is dead...I keep seeing the same cars pop up or sit in the ads for weeks on end. I even priced my Astra $2000-$3000 under what other cars are priced at! It looks like the dealers are struggling to shift cars to.
The car I was going to buy is back up on carsales.com.au. I had given the bloke $200 to take his ads down and hold it for me, he went on a month holiday in which time I was hoping to get rid of the Astra which didnt happen so I just told him to keep the money with my apologies. I feel really bad because he has had it for sale for weeks now.
It really is a lovely car. Higher than average KMS compared to other cars in Perth but its got a full history and is immaculate and feels as tight as brand new demo models I have driven. In the grand scheme of things those sorts of KM are nowt really especially seeing as there are cars getting about in the UK with 80,000 MILES plus on them with no issues.

Yeah I was pretty gutted but I guess these things happen.
Its a good price and also a price I thought was quite realistic...there are heaps of them out there that people are trying to sell at almost the new price.
I went round a few wholesalers and 'cash for cars' type places but they were offering some really silly money so I wasnt interested. The Astra just ticked over 100,000KMS this week so now they either wont take it or really cut down on what they will buy at.
One wholesaler had a Silver XR5 with 15,000KMS for $32,000 and offered a tiny amount for the Astra but wouldnt budge on the price of the Focus so I walked.
Yep it looks like the used market has flopped. I think it will be a good thing in the long term though because the used market has been really overpriced here, for the short term though it means that most people (myself included) have suddenly found themselves with a car worth less than they are paying for it that they cant sell!

shame mate. real shame.
Whats the spec and details on the astra, have you got pics and whats your price at the moment. Might know someone. Dont get your hopes up as they have trouble deciding whether to have tea or coffee in the morning but worth a try.
We were looking at selling our Kia but couldnt be bothered to go through the hassle.

Second hand market is definitely down on a year ago.
I've just sold a 1993 Pajero for a grand less than it should have been worth just to get a quick sale.
On the flip side, I've just bought a 2005 Prado fully loaded for $35500 from a dealer which was originally up for $40000.
I wonder if this global credit crunch is the main cause.
Good luck with the Astra anyway. Hope it sells.
