Pround owner of a new 135im (well its 6 weeks old now) and very happy. Really fancy a track day. Ive heard BMW club run them, but cant find any info. Can anybody help? What are rules ie do you need extingusihers/helmets etc.

Secondly dont want to trash new tyres so was thinking of second set of rims and tyres. Does anybody know where I could get second hand rims to fit the new 135 and some part worn/remoulds at reasonable prices.

Gday Mark, pity you missed our recent Perth PH meet... but we're planning more.

Best bet would be to join the WASCC, especially if you're going to go to any race meetings at Wanneroo. As a member you can drive your car on the track at their "tuning days"usually at least 1 per month. IIRC it costs $50 for the day. You also need a CAMS basic (2S?) licence, which isn't expensive. You just need a crash helmet and suitable clothing (ie driving suit not required).

There are also days at the AHG track at the airport, they have "test days"as well as sprint events. Where are you living/working?

I hope you were joking about remoulds...

O/T are you related to Tony? ISTR he had a brother on here?

Dont bother with re-moulds especially on track! It gets hot as hell at Wanners so good tyres are a must!

Plenty of places around do 2nd hand rims but it will be hit and miss as to weather you will find a set of 4 that are still round and are the right size, offset etc for your car.

Personally I would just make sure your brake pads and tyres and in top form and drive at 7/10ths, no reason why standard road going gear should not last at that pace.

You will need to join a CAMS affiliated club and get a L2S license....I seem to remember its about $80 a year and will allow you to enter most single car events and timed events.
www.cams.com.au has a listing for CAMS clubs. Most people in Perth seem to join WASCC for the cheap trackdays and free entry to race events.. www.wascc.com.au

Also look at www.dtec.com.au as they do driver training as well as various track events.

Go to www.revolutionracegear.com.au to find a helmet. You wont need all the other gear for L2S events but obviously its up to you what risks your willing to take.
Normally for a CAMS L2S event you need a CAMS approved lid, long clothing and closed shoes and a CAMS approved 1KG dry powder extinguisher fixed with a metal bracket in a spot you can reach without having to strain or undo your seatbelt. I think they also need you to have a secondary bonnet latch and a blue triangle to show the location of your battery.

I wouldn't go to BMW for an extinguisher, they may have them but they're bound to be expensive... I would have though somewhere like Auto One or similar would have them?
Tyres: I use Kerry Wade (V8 Ute and street car racer), he is in Bentley, opposite Kim Ledger's business (can't remember the name of Kerry's shop) You didn't say where you are?
IIRC the licence costs less than $100, and it's just a fill in the form and pay the money.
WASCC membership is areound $220 plus a nomination fee the first year($50?). See www.wascc.com.au

www.cams.com.au has the regulations for extinguishers. You can pick up a CAMS one from...well pretty much anywhere that sells them! It must have a metal bracket though with a strap around it.

Revolution Racegear in Osbourne Park will have them...probably a bit more expensive than buying from some random shop but at least you know your getting the right kit. Dont forget though that your going to have to figure out how to solidly fix it to your shiny new car!! Hint..It might require a drill and some holes!!

Kerry Wade...thats the Bridgestone place right? Its near LF Performance...the one that built those terrifyingly quick blue RX7's?
I would not bother with cheap tyres...you get what you pay for so mega cheap tyres will be hard as wood and provide about as much grip / safety. If you get some time with an instructor they will show you how to drive without ripping blocks off your tyres.

Most tyre shops can order what ever tyres you want and I always find that ringing eveyrone in the phone book and then calling them again to say "so and so can beat your price...can you do better?" gets decent prices.
Some people order from the USA and even with shipping they can land here for less.

Yep that's the place. Kerry drove one of Kim's RX7s for a few years but is running a Skyline in street cars this year (I think?)

LF (Kim Ledger and Terry Fielding) are opposite. Kim used to own Rotomotion, and used to build my race engines (back in those days Heath was racing karts...)
