So, i'm coming out to Australia in September/October (if i get my working holiday visa rolleyes) and i've been offered a job on a 5000HA farm.

What's it like round that way? I'll be making hay and then moving on to harvest, i don't suppose by a stroke of luck any PHers are out that way, the farmers name is David Cox, a quick google suggests he's fairly well known.

He seems to be involved in both http://www.nuffieldscholar.org/ and on the board of the "european australian business council"

Don't suppose you will find any PHers (or anything elsewink ) out that way. There are a few of us in Perth, but (and I guess you already know this) Perth is about 800KM by road from Esperance.

I guess you will be at least passing through Perth at some time, are you planning on spending any time here? Would definitely catch up for a beer at least when you are here drink

Cool, give us a shout when you're heading down. Do you know anyone in Perth? Where are you staying?

We're having our first Perth (well Fremantle actually) PH meet in a couple of weeks beer

The farm probably reaches to almost civilisation hehe mind you, on something like this i don't think road travel is sensible:

Give me a shout closer to the time, if you need a place for a couple of days I've got room here. Not exactly central though...

I really want to try and get to Esperance for a holiday. Its a fair road trip but flying is so expensive and we would still ned a car when we get there.
Maybe once we have the focus we will have a go.

I'm Thinking of going:

Perth
Albany - overnight
Esperance - 2 weeks
Kalgorlie - 3 nights? Not sure if a stop is needed on the way
Perth - dont know if there is a stop worth doing between Kal and Perth

But then we keep umming and ahhing about that because doing that trip really would cost as much as just flying to Esperance and gettin ga car...which will ond up costing similar to flying to Asia for a week...

Silent1...If you like the white beaches in Esperance I can thoroughly reccomend getting up to Coral Bay (as long as they have not built the resort) which is North WA. 16 - 18 hours by car or 3 - 4 flying + 1 driving.

Also in Esperance you might catch glimpse of 1 of 3 MK1 MR2's being driven to within an inch of their life. Thats John and he is an MR2 nut and does some crazy modifications himself. 1 is white with a crazy boodykit and massive stereo system, 1 is blue and is twincharged (turbo+supercharger!) and a red one that is stripped out for targa rally events. He has a habit of constantly swapping engines and parts between all 3.

I shall keep you in mind, it would be great to meet some international PHers, especially when i'll know no-one!

I'm hoping to hear back about my visa any day, so i'll start planning once i hear.

Congratulations mate! Now get booking those flights!!

Oh did anyone tell you about the screaming spiders that can only be found in Esperance?

You will know when you find one. The male spider is bigger than your head, bright yellow and emits a shrill squeeling sound to confuse its prey before charging in for the bite....at a top speed of 53KMH...

Let us know when your coming across, and well have a pint. It's only fair to welcome another PH onto these shores.
