Stolen/Recovered vehicle registration - Vic.
Discussion
Anyone ever been through the process of re-registering a stolen/recovered vehicle in Vic?
Looking at a seriously cheap 99 Discovery 2 which was subject to theft by taking the keys and was subsequently recovered after the insurance co paid out.
Has a bit of minor cosmetic damage, a shattered rear light lense etc but is generally in pretty good condition. Only bodywork repair really needed is a small ding to the rear door behind the B pillar.
I gather on top of the usual rwc it'd need a VIV inspection.
Has anyone ever been through the process of getting a car like this back on the road and re-registered? If so how much pain was it?
Cheers

"Vehicle Identity Verification" apparently - sounds like they check all the numbers match up to ensure it's not a batch of stolen parts/2 cars welded back together etc.
Costs $470 for the inspection though so i fear it may be rather more involved than just a quick check of the engine/chasis/etc numbers.
That's the bit that concerns me, so dunno if anyone on here has an idea of exactly what they check?
Thinking it's probably too much trouble really, no matter how cheap the car is it may turn into a big bag of pain.

Yeah for $470 it sounds a bit in depth....no doubt you will also be sitting around waiting for hours on end for the test to happen and then you can go and line up for another hour to get your rego plates. I would also think that if they found anything not strictly road legal the test would end or you would 'fail'.
Also worth considering that the car will show up as stolen recovered on any future REVS check when you want to sell it.
