R35 GTR is on the SEVS list!!!!
Discussion
Yep thats right some clever clever monkey got the application in nice and early and the R35 GTR is going to be eligible for import!!
Estimated price of an Australian delivered car was $160,000 when they are launched in 2009.
I can see an import being half that...still a heap of money but you will be able to bring a brand spanking new car in.
I dont think I will be able to afford one for a while but I am going to be keeping my ear to the ground to see who is going to be bringing them in and complying them.
Here is the approval>

I thought that...
But then I seriously doubt they would be bringing cars in under the SEVS ruling. Nissan themselves would be opening the gate for every importer who wants to bring in cars and sell them under Nissans nose.
I would think that there would be some rule stating that you cant use SEVS to sell full volume cars, they would have to go through aussie crash tests and ADR tests.
I know one white one came in through justjap imports inthe eastern states somewhere...that is a targa car and is going to be wearing the donut king colours, owned by the bloke that owns donut king..
There is a black one in WA which was also rumoured to be a race/rally import but I suspect it could be a test car for one of the workshops.

Presumably the date range allowed for cars being brought in under the SEVS ruling will only be up to the point where Nissan start bringing them in officially?
Could mean there is a reasonably small number sold in Japan so far that would be eligable for import if Nissan speed up their plans to import to Australia themselves to block other importers.

Going off of other cars...No the age range will stay as it is on the approval until the final year of manufacture. Then the age range will just be changed to reflect the years the car was built.
The same thing happened with the S15 Silvia/200sx thingo. Nissan Aus were selling them but you could also get an import of the exact same car.

It does seem that someone has actually been very quick off the mark in getting this approved outside of Nissan.. I work right next door to Nissan Australia we use the same carparks & facilities havent seen a GTR in there yet, Looks like I'll have to have a chance meeting with someone in the carpark and ask the question! I guarnatee if they had one, I would of sniffed it out by now especially with Brisbane motorshow coming up next week.
I shall keep looking! But top marks to whoever got the SEVS approval!

Well Fabcar (formerly Autowholesale on Shepperton Rd) in Perth have one...I have heard its a test car and I have also heards its a race/rally import for targa events. www.fabcar.com.au and http://www.caradvice.com.au/9763/nissan-gt-r-previ...
The white one was brought in by justjap imports....not sure where they are located but that one definately is a targa car and replaces the R32 GTR that is owned/driven by the bloke that started Donut King:

And, from your original post suggesting they could be half the 160 k price presumably from Nissan Aus.
If that's the case it would be less than the UK price i.e. 80 k AUSD less than 40 k GBP... unless I've got it @rse about face as usual.
I think a lot of people are going to get them now.
I just wonder how many people in the market for a premium product are going to be willing to buy outside the dealer network and I also wonder if it is really a good move by the importers to go ahead with this...they sell a sheet load of R32 and R33 GTR's to kids that can about afford the $30K to do it but the average aussie import owner would not be able to afford one (IMO).
It will be worth waiting to see Nissan Australia's stance on servicing and parts supply...by law you could get it serviced anywhere but how easy or cheap that is going to be will be anyones guess and with the car being so new your at risk of missing vital maintenance or recalls / updates.
