Bondy. I'm in the process of trying to get a 3R into Adelaide, will be moving over to Oz in November. I believe theres a couple of dealers in NSW and 1 in Victoria, but the M12s will be few and far between. Getting it over there is one thing, getting it through the reggos and then insured will be another.
But dont need to tell you that any issues will be worth tackling as the M12 is a cracking motor. Will be going for DOTARS approval in September then it will be a tight run heading into November.

Hi,
As I understand it Nobles cannot be road registered at this stage in NSW. I have it on good authority that they do not comply with ADRs (Australian Design Regulations) as the induction noise is too loud.
I actually had the rare opportuinity to sit in one of the 3 (to my knowledge) that are in Australia on the weekend just past.

I don't know the answer to this, but if you were to bring in a car that wasn't type approved, could you go through the same licensing procedure that new kit cars do?
If it turns out to be too hard to bring the Noble, do your homework and forward planning; you will find many cars that are cheapish in the UK which could be imported as a personal car (assuming you comply with the MANY rules) and sold here at a MUCH higher price.
Might ease the pain of leaving the UK for this place

Hi,
If I can't take the Noble out there, I may just sell it and get an Exige as I know there are a good Lotus Groups out there.
Bondy
Jarrod. Any more info on the ADR, induction noise issue would be much appreciated. I believe the 3 Nobles you mention were shipped over ready for the 3R launch last year then the Oz distributer and sole importer - MG Rover in Sydney - went into admin. They had'nt completed the ADR at that time but not sure what the present situation is. I do know the 3R is on the Specialist Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme List. Apparently this will let you bring it in but does'nt mean it will satisfy specific ADR requirements. The word minefield springs to mind.
Bondy..... www.carshippingtoaustralia.com/index.html is a good site with loads of info.
I'll have to wait till September and apply for import approval which I think I'll get but its the ADR issue which will be a challenge. Investigating several other avenues at the moment.

If you are personally importing a car then not all ADR's are applicable. The problem is finding out just what ADR's have to be met for a personal import. My TVR T350T was registered in VIC with no modifications but it does not meet all ADR's. I think that a personal import is treated in much the same way as a kit car. The inspector that checked my car looked at,
Seatbelts, lights, glass, door locks, fuel filler, brake lines.
My Wifes car is being checked next week. I'll make some enquiries.

Hi Steve
Hope you can bring your Noble, it would be mighty at Philip Island. Insurance should be no problem just call Shannon's they should insure it. If you give me the basic details of the car I can call them for you and get a quote if that helps. Always happy to help a fellow Petrol head! In fact if you can give me some details of the car I might be able to get a ruling on ADR's from a chap that I know at Vic Roads. Are you coming to VIC? or was it NSW?

if you bring in your car w/o DOTARS approval, regardless of the ADRs you become a select member of the very irritating experience known as RAWWS.
you don't want to be part of that group -- you'll never get your pride & joy on the road. enough said, our Caterham SV has just cleared quarantine, and re-vaulation as the shipper applied the wrong value.
there is a right and a wrong way, i have followed what was described as the right way -- got the insurance slip now, and will get our car next week.
almost all my asvise came from other Elise/Exige owners, and a great mate with a Caterham SV as well. aussielises.com and ozclubbies.com can give you a lot of information -- read it and consider heeding it. i have and it appears to have paid off well.
BTW, i'm not trying to be negative (who me -- never ) but realistic. a Noble is a thing of beauty that should be loose on the NSW roads

Absolutely
But DOTARS has absolutely nothing to do with registration. If you have owned and used the car abroad for more than 12 months and are moving to Australia permanently then you will be granted approval for personal import, that is a given, sure you must apply but you will be approved. Registration is a whole different can of worms. There does not seem to be a list of ADR's that an import has to comply with so it is very much down to the engineer that assess's your car. In your case I would find an engineer that examines clubman kits, if you are in VIC then I can give you the contact details for the chap that inspected my TVR, he has inspected many clubans so would likely be a good person for a 7. I am sure ther Lotus guys have pointed you in the right direction. BTW, will you join the Lotus club?
Cheers

Steve-B. Consider your advice heeded. Will look at sites you suggested. What I dont want is to get the thing over there and cant get it on the bl**dy road. I do have a bit of time and as they say "fail to plan is plan to fail". By the way I'm going to SA. The first day its road legal I'll send you pics with its plates on.
