Where to see Sydney fireworks
Discussion
Best to buy tickets. All public spots are filled early in the day, so lot's of sitting around.
I did the Opera House a few years ago, there's about 3 different functions on offer there.
Alternatively Taronga Zoo has a good viewing point and more family orientated.
Or a cruise but personally I don't think they're that good.
It's worth it btw, they usually have some shows on, stunt planes, 9pm kiddy fireworks etc.. and the main event is amazing.

Agree the best is on a boat - my friend's birthday is 1 Jan, and this year was his 50th, so boat it was
Have also watched from the other side of the Bridge - Balmain/Mort Bay area which is no less busy but in the middle of a load of houses, so more relaxed.
The first year I was here spent all evening with friends at The Australian in The Rocks until about 11.30pm and then just found a spot to see enough fireworks to make it worthwhile.
Otherwise, as Rob has said, pitch up at one of the public parks with a view early in the day, and make a whole day of it.
