So the mrs (oz native) is making noises about moving to Melbourne when she finishes her MA in about 18 months, or maybe 30 months if she decides to do the extra year.

I'm 41, qualified and experienced spark and while I toy the idea of getting out the trade have no real idea what I'd do. Going back into employment doesn't thrill me but you guys get better treatment than here...

Hoping that being married/skilled/British is enough that visa will be a formality, am I correct, and is there anything anyone would advise looking into in readiness?

Should be fine provided you pass the medical / meet all the other requirements. My wife is Australian and my visa took 2 weeks to get approved. That was 12 years ago though.

Be aware that any qualifications you have in terms of trade may not be recognised. I have a friend who is a qualified sparky in Canada but he can't work as a sparky here without doing extra qualifications.
