What to do with 6 months in Australia??
Discussion
He He, some lucky person is leaving the UK on July 11th to live in Sydney for 4 months and travel Aus and New Zealand for the next two!
Question is what do I need to see when I am out there, I am trying to find out everything there is to go at, including all the petrolhead stuff!
So what should I see, what is unmissable in Australia?
My basic route at the moment is:
London to Sydney, then travelling from November to January: Sydney to Cairns, Cairns to Perth, Perth to Christchurch, Christchurch to Auckland, Auckland to Sydney, Sydney to London!
Fire away folks

Sailing round the Whitsundays - pick a decent yacht, not a backpacker special, for three days/two nights - fantastic scenery and snorkelling. Fly down or take a coach from Cairns. Airlie Beach is a good party place too...
Ningaloo Reef on the West Coast and if you spend any time in Perth, go to Freemantle, Scarborough Beach (for the beach) and margaret River (for the vino), Kakadu in Northern Territory for crocs
Loads to see and do in and around Sydney for 4 months, inc Bathurst, Blue Mountains, Royal National Park, Ku-Ring Gai Park, surfing (you've got to), sailing, walking, mountain biking, and so on.
What I will say, though, is to check very carefully the cheap backpacker specials at every turn - Nov-Feb is peak time and not everyone is out to provide a great time.
If you want to get some idea of how much it is to rent a place in Sydney, try www.smh.com.au and go to the Domain section.
Enjoy.
