My daughter thinks she may have got pinged by a red light camera in Sydney this week, what's the penalty usually? She got what she called a demerit a couple of years ago for speeding if that makes any difference.

Looks like 3. You can look up your points online. I knew you could in Victoria so just checked you can in NSW.

In Victoria, the red light cameras can get you for speeding too. I have been zapped twice by them.

Thanks for that, the fines are a bit harsh compared with the U.K. She'd best hope she wasn't speeding as well.

Transportation! She gets sent to the colonies UK.

AFAIK they take 2 photos a short time (either 0.5 or 1 second) apart. You are only pinged if still on the intersection in the 2nd photo. This is according to an ex-workmate whose previous job was with the red light camera system.
So she may be in the clear.



btw, having been very nearly killed by a chancer who ran a red light, I wish they had cameras at every set of lights.
