My New Focus RS - Adelaide
Discussion
I'll cut and paste from the focus forum...
So it's been a funny old weekend! The car was ordered back in December and I've owned RS cars since Xmas Eve 1999 when I bought my first. This was my first shot at buying one brand new.
The car was due to Adelaide on Thu evening and the dealer on Fri am. They were to PD it so it could go straight to the detailer for the weekend and I collect Mon am. I went to he dealer to see it unload on Friday. No car and no news. Eventually the girl called the transport company and there's clearly an issue. She covers the phone and says 'do you want to go and drive it here'? ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR yes! So my friend gave me a lift over to transport.
This is what I found!
That's the weapon spec family polo 3rd car btw. Bit of a difference LOL
So I got to see all the transport paperwork, stickers, pads blah. The aerial stuck in to the back seat was funny! Lovely small 7 km on the clock but no fuel. I had to use the Polo jack to jack the car and remove the front suspension blocks too! I signed for the car and left to go next door for petrol.
Next stop the dealer for PDI.
It was supposed to be trucked to the detailer but they asked if I'd drive. OK just to speed it up! Bare in mind it hadn't been paid for!!!
I decided to go and get the bank cheque and pay for the car before taking it to the detailer. When there I was told it would be done and ready Sat am. Ok forget the Monday dealer collection, sat it is! I went down sat am and found this:
WOW! The car looked amazing. The paint was in good condition and minimal crap lifted on first prep polish. All stickers were removed, washed, under polish and then Opticoat top finish. 35% front tints, 18% rears. I took the rego plates down and fitted the final piece of the puzzle.
I did some km on sat and it came home. I didn't put straight in the garage and then I heard rain! This is how water sits on Opticoat:
Later it got put to bed:
I only went out on Sunday to test the boot size:
Anyway I haven't driven far but thoughts:
AMAZING
The colour is BRILLIANT. It changes in varying light and is everything I expected.
Wheels are MIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS better than standard IMO.
I'm 6 ft 4 (193 cm) and seats to me are no where near too high. There's a good 1-2" still to the roof.
Steering feel is brilliant. very positive and instant.
Noise is better than videos. Louder than expected. Engage sport mode, rev to 3500 rpm and back off to a decent pop bang.
Ride isn't too firm.
I'll update this when I do more km on open roads. For now it's nice to have one of the first in Adelaide.
For now enjoy my waffle... or not LOL

What made you go Focus over a, say, Mustang?
I'm sure it's a nice car, but I just don't *get* hatchbacks for some reason.
How does it drive? Does it feel FWD or 4WD?
Glad you like it though, enjoy it. I think I've seen just the one over here (Perth) so far.
I've had RS car for years and love the marque. I LOVE hatchback cars and smaller performance cars. I enjoyed my mk1 FRS and have driven the mk2 and loved it also. I suspect that the car will retain good market value also.I'm sure it's a nice car, but I just don't *get* hatchbacks for some reason.

I'm not a Mustang style car kinda guy at all. I appreciate it and would love a hoon style shot of a V8 manual but would never own one.
It absolutely does not feel liek FWD. I've only done 180 km and mainly round the suburbs so not explored the full feel. It deffo feels very grippy and competent though.
You'll only have seen one because there really aren't many out there yet. I guess I'm one of 3-5 on the road in Adelaide at the moment.
Picked it up from Dry Creek by any chance?
If the transport company is who I think it is then the Telstra outage took their system down on Thursday which may account for the lack of Friday delivery (and made my month / quarter / fin year end a bit of a nightmare).
Did it come in to Adelaide port or was it trucked over from Melb?

Yes I collected it from Prixcar Dry Creek for the dealer. It was trucked there from Melbourne. Left Mel the Monday and got there Thu night I believe. If the transport company is who I think it is then the Telstra outage took their system down on Thursday which may account for the lack of Friday delivery (and made my month / quarter / fin year end a bit of a nightmare).

Congrats Chop! Will keep an eye out for you on the road - which parts of town do you normally pass through? Presumably run is 1000 miles or so?
Does look like a really good detailing outfit too, will keep them in mind.
Great colour, reminds me of Nogaro Blue on my old RS4.
I don't really commute and it's a 3rd car in the house so nowhere in particular. Let's arrange that meet up and you can have a look then.Does look like a really good detailing outfit too, will keep them in mind.

Nice.... Is it the wheels or Tyres or something are optional?
Guy at work ordered his last year and got bumped as the dealer closed down.
He has the VIN now and can see it was built a month ago but it must be making its own way here as it hasn't found a boat yet!
Yes mate only colour and wheels are options in Australia. My wheels are the optional forged rims. They should come with upgraded Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres but Ford have run out so are supplying cars with the standard tyre, Michelin Supersports. When the cups are available For will deliver them to me and I can keep the SS tyres free! What a bonus!Guy at work ordered his last year and got bumped as the dealer closed down.

Yes they are Recaro Sportster CS. I love them!

Will do! How does early one Sunday morning sound, down by Brighton beach so there's somewhere serving coffee? Or if that's too far for those up in the hills, we can do Windy Point or somewhere similar.Would have done this weekend if it wasn't for the delay on delivery of the car - turns out there's a typo on the engine number on the documentation, so Service SA won't pass it for identification. After much arguing they will pass it, but only through another inspection early next week.

Sunday morning sounds good but in 2-3 weeks when kids Footy season is over maybe. I don't mind the location but coffee is good Would have done this weekend if it wasn't for the delay on delivery of the car - turns out there's a typo on the engine number on the documentation, so Service SA won't pass it for identification. Bummer about the typo. Hope it gets sorted out soon.
