Any recommendations? I need a cheap run around (sub-$8k) and the few places I've been thus far haven't been a great experience.

I know what you mean. But not having a car to buy a car is proving a nightmare! So the clusters of used car lots are appealing.

Went over to Vic Park yesterday, found a few places pretty good. Was nailed on to take home a very tidy Honda CRV but the paperwork let it down unfortunately. 12 years old, virtually no service history. Was a shame as I liked it.

Will probably pop back mid-week for another look.

thought about pickles auction place? have website and pretty regular sales. Where are you currently staying? might help narrow things down.

Careful at auction places unless you're buying gov stuff imo.

And no service history well... All my daily stuff is just done for cash, I don't bother with it. I just look over the car and drive it..

For $8k car go private as its really a $5k car at a dealer.

I bought my 5 series for $8k at 3MW and they were fine but I'd probably go private for that much if it was a common one.

John Hughes Wholesale is the only one I've heard lots of good things about

I know you said 'cheap runaround' but I'd have this in a heartbeat.

I would have it in a heartbeat too, coming from BMWs previously. Though the missus needs it for work and if that goes wrong it will be costly!

Will check out John Hughes wholesale and a few private bits next week.

Thanks all.

I bought a 2000 528 Sport with 178k kms in September and I thought I got a good deal at 8500 and so far a $500 service and$700 for a radiator and fittings is all I've had. i figure keep it 2 years , put 45000k's on it and sell it for $5k and its only cost 3-5k indepreciationNdvoet costs - cheap for2 yes worth. Feels bullet proof too. My only regret is I didn't get a 530!

Do it do it do it do it.

It's that or a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer laugh

Just bought a 96 C200 for a lot, lot less than 8k.
In love with it big time.

Got it privately on gumtree. Was one of those turned up to see it and I was already sold.. Love at first sight.
