Another two coming over from the UK here.

Heading to Coffs Harbour. Probably too small and will wonder why we aren't in Sydney or Brisbane, but they're only down the road to happily relocate.

The girlfriend be a Teacher and I'm in plumbing and heating.

Flying out on the 2nd November. The container leaves on the 27th.

Let's see how it works out!

Good luck, hope things work out for you. My family and I lasted almost 8 years before work dried up for me, I'm back in HK but we're off to windy Wellington mid November. So will see how that goes. East Coast is a great part of Australia. I'm sure you'll love it.

Cheers

When you get there Gingerbread Man look up Troy ODoherty. He has a very successful Triumph TR7 V8 classic rally car, running second in the championship this year & is a very friendly, helpful bloke.

He has quite a few mates into club level motor sport, & there is quite a lot of activity in the area.

Unless you are addicted to bright lights, you'll love it.

Someone to be my friend!

We know nobody, have no jobs lined up, just the odd lead, no permanent housing. Should be an adventure. Oh, and I'm taking the Caterham with me...

I'd happily get out of Sydney for a less hectic life in Coffs or Port Mac if it weren't for there being a distinct lack of powerfully built director roles in the east coast towns.

Not sure if we'll find that we need to head Sydney/ Brisbane way for jobs, but it's our first stop to see how life goes.

Better brush up on Hot Water Heat Pumps.

A lot of hot water cylinders are installed outside in Oz (come to think of it I have a cousin living in Coffs Harbour) - mains pressure with a heat pump on top.

Let me know if you end up in NZ any time (or rather earthquake prone Christchurch) - getting very busy with underfloor heating

I've noticed the air source cylinders from my trips in the past. Air conditioning was another thought.

I'll be arriving in Wellington mid November, nowhere to live yet, but hey, that's a minor problem at the moment.............

I think you've made a good choice; it may take a little longer to get the right job but your cost of living will be less in the short term.

Coffs Harbour is a popular sea change area, with large numbers retiring there. This has been happening for many years, so the place has grown quite quickly.

It still has a lot of building both domestic & commercial, with a fair bit of work for plumbers. Much of the housing is aging, with plenty of maintenance work offering. There is also a lot of acreage living with tank water domestic pressure systems, & rubble drains. I have one neighbour who does nothing but rubble drains, & drives a V8 ute, or a F150 4WD ute depending on the weather.

My next door neighbour is a plumber. He has a very old Land cruiser ute, with bars to carry guttering & piping on top. He does only maintenance work, for private customers, & knows most of the domestic pressure systems backwards. He works about 4 hours a day, as he needs lots of time on his collection of Ducati bikes.

Plumbing is a licence to print money in Oz in the right area.

I've heard that it can sometimes be hard to get a job as, lie anywhere in the world I guess, they'd rather employ an Ozzy than foreigner. Like England and the Eastern Europeans I'd suspect.

I'll have to go back to college to transfer my regulations over for gas etc into something that means something.

Hopefully age will be on my side in helping my secure a job.

Hi
We live 2 hrs south of Coffs in Port Macquarie. Coffs is a great place but not a city so it depends what you are looking for.

If you have any questions I may be able to help.

Keep in touch, we come up to Coffs a bit

Ps you bringing the Caterham?

How does it compare to Port Macquarie, as the place was looked into as an alternative?

I am shipping the Caterham. Just rebuilt it, ran a thread in Readers Cars. Hopefully it all pans out.

A couple of Troy's mates in Coffs have clubman type things, that they use for mostly club level competition, so that should be a good choice for fun, & to help break the ice as well. I believe there is enough around there to be satisfying, just no real circuits for track day stuff like you have in the UK.

There are some great roads in the hinterland there as well.

Hi mate
I'm biased I will always say Port is better than Coffs hehehehe.

But seriously the towns on the Mid North Coast are beautiful.

Coffs is bigger than Port and has a bit more going for it, but only a bit, they are very very similar.

There are heaps of things to do and see around here. A AWD or 4x4 would be good to seriously consider too.

Not sure on employment for your skill, sorry I can help with that.

Give us a shout when you are here it will be nice to meet. Looking forward to seeing the car.

I think the larger population on Coffs swung it for us, but we'll see! Are you UK based originally?

I used to have a Defender 90 here which I loved. Took it off road often. Maybe something I'll reignite in Oz. The girlfriend wants a soft top Defender 90. Might look at a Jeep Wangerler!

The 7's still in the paint shop....needs to be in a container on Tuesday....

Hi
Yes originally a POME been here for 8.5 years and love it.

The out door life and climate is awesome.

We have a 4 door Wrangler, we love it. Coffs has a massive Jeep following there is a club and a Jeep magazine published from Coffs, the Wrangler is a fun fun car.

Not quite a fast as my other babies, but best of both worlds heheh

I'm a big fan of port Macquarie. Great town.

Have you considered Newcastle? Best place I have ever lived. Smaller than Sydney but more opportunities than regional towns.
