Congratulations!
I'm coming over to Perth on a year working Visa in August, cannot wait!
Hoping to find a job in Motorsport as that is what i do now and what my degree is in, but their isnt much going on in WA so it may be a struggle!
Whats your job in Stefan?
Thanks. I'm in IT Security, job is working for an IT Service Provider on one of their major accounts, I'll be based down in the CBD.I'm coming over to Perth on a year working Visa in August, cannot wait!

I'm looking at whether to bring my Vauxhall VXR8 over, it's got a Harrop HH1900 Supercharger and I'm quite attached to it, I think cost wise by the time I've paid shipping costs and import duty it's not a million miles away from what I could get a normal HSV Clubsport R8 for locally. I am aware how potentially 'license loosing' the policing is over there so I'm also contemplating just getting something like a Toyota FJ Cruiser instead locally.
I haven't really looked at how much goes on at the Barbagallo Raceway so I couldn't advise on your side of things. I assume there is other motorsport venues around WA?

Well done guys. Let us know when you get here and if you need any help at all.
Even if it's just to have a few jars once you get here.
Thanks mate, will definitely be in touch once we land, shame we couldn't meet up a couple of weeks ago, was a manic couple of days, I hope your Friday at the cider farm was fruitful Even if it's just to have a few jars once you get here.
Thanks for the offer of help though much appreciated to know it's there if required.

I'd sell the VXR, stick with your FJ Cruiser plan and go explore the outback/offroading. Keep the VXR and have no license within 3 months it's that draconian here.Stef
Hi just another thing to keep in mind if you bring the commodore to Perth is actually getting it licensed here with the mods you have done. There really strict on what you can do. You need a permit just to put aftermarket headers on. Lots of people mod there cars and just hope they don't get a defect notice from the rozzers which means getting it inspected. Not mot here so you don't get you car looked at every year.

Yeah thanks guys. I think the plan is to sell it here in the UK now and then see what I fancy when I come over. By the time I pay the car off and ship it and import it it's getting in to silly money, as much as I want to keep the car!
Stef
I've seen quite a few tweaked VEs up for sale recently .. one was a 600whp twin turbo.Stef
All in the region of 25~35k ..

Dont pin your hopes on anything motorsport related in WA - Almost all engineering is related to the mining industry. Unlike UK circuits there are no motorsport companies working out of Barbagello with the circuit and facilities being of a much lower standard than a UK circuit. A guy I work with helps out at Warrens Ultra Fast Karts which is based there but he doesnt get paid.200bhp said:

Yep unfortunately I am all too aware of this .I have something in the pipeline, but as you can only work for the same employer for 6 months on a WHV, even if that comes off, I still have 6 months of work to find.
Im treating my WHV as exactly that, a wWorking Holiday, not a oppertunity to further my career. Working in Motorsport is not paramount, would just be a bonus !

There are quite a few tuning shops about, proper engine builders and drag racing type places.

I have a degree in 'Motorsport - Management & Logistics' (Completed last June), But have 4 seasons experience as a race mechanic/data engineer in a few different categories, this is all race weekend stuff, not full time. There are quite a few tuning shops about, proper engine builders and drag racing type places.
During the week I work for a Motorsport Parts importer/retailer, doing Sales and taking care of all the Marketing of the business .
Try getting in touch with these guys: http://www.proformance.com.au/
They do some interesting stuff and also offer "work experience" type un-paid work.
