I've recently moved over to Sydney from Perth and while the general standard of roads in Perth was generally pretty good the roads here are like you'd expect from a third world country.
Why is this, is it because it rains more here, more traffic, bigger network and less money to go round and then to top it off you have to pay a toll to use them if you want to get somewhere in a decent amount of time?
Anyone else from Perth whose driven over here noticed the same?

O'Riordan is likely to be part of the overhaul being given to Green Sq and adjoining precincts. ED has problems relating to its construction which mean its likely to continue having problems.
I don't think other main roads are too bad for the amount of use, but depends whether part of RMS network or maintained by local authority. Asset mgt only now becoming something of interest - this means planning for maintenance!
Many suburban roads are in fairly poor state, esp following heavy rain, of which we get a lot... Seems we can make a rigid pavement road but have trouble with Tarmac.
