I guess like a few peeps I've been feeling drained of any driving enthusiasm by a few hundred $$$ of penalty notices and the general steness of day 2 day driving in Sydney. So I thought in an effort to revive some enthusiasm I ask for inspirational roads to just go out and drive?

I'll kick it off with a new one for me, recently discovered; the road from Lithgow to Newnes. This road was recently tarmac'd apparently to allow wealthy Sydneysiders to drive to the uber chic new Emirates resort on the outskirts of Newnes.

Whatever, it's an absolute gem and up there with the best roads I've driven anywhere - except the course chip road surface is shocking but give it a couple of summers to bed in and perfection beckons.

Bylong Valley Way from the upper hunter to around Rylstone gets good reviews. Recently had big dollars spent on it for mine access.

Oxley Highway, Port Macquarie to Walcha, over 80km of twists and turns - awesome.

Out on one of the back roads near where I live and bumped into a 1970s smaller BMW with Alpina or Martini colours on it out for a spin.

The Mount Lindesay Highway, through the boarder ranges from Beaudesert to Woodenbong, & on to Warrick Many of the roads around Boonah, with Boonah to Rathdowney, & the Lions road being great.

The Summerland way around Casino/Koyogle, & the Bruxner highway from Casino to Tenterfield is not to be missed.

Lots of good stuff inland from Kiama to Braidwood too.

Raising this one again as I've been checking our some of the roads mentioned and it looks like a great way to spend a weekend.

I'm going to put a bit of an itinerary together probably for an Oct weekend and see if anyone else is up for it.

Initial thoughts would be to leave Sydney on Friday night and stay somewhere north of Windsor then up the Putty Rd the next day and into those roads around the Bylong Valley, staying somewhere Sat night and finding more roads to do before a long haul back to Sydney via Singleton and the 33 through Wollombi.

Was up in the hills last week for a little drive! Ending up being out for about 6 hours. 2 of those were spent in transit.

Heaps of others in the Yarra Ranges.
